Airbus, EASA warn of A321neo excessive pitch-up condition
Airbus has urged A321neo operators to implement a temporary center-of-gravity (CG) limitation to eliminate an already-remote risk of an excessive pitch-up condition while it finalizes a software update that addresses the issue. EASA on July 17 mandated the CG restriction for European operators, requiring a flight manual amendment detailing the restrictions by the end of August.

Pratt & Whitney wins $254m to remanufacture foreign F100 engines
Pratt & Whitney (P&W) Military Engines won a $254 million contract to remanufacture an undisclosed number of F100 engines for Foreign Military Sales customers of the USA.
The F100 engine family is used by 22 nations allied with the USA to power Boeing F-15E Eagles and Lockheed Martin F-16C/D Fighting Falcons. The recent remanufacturing contract will support engines in Chile, Indonesia, Taiwan, Poland, Greece, Iraq, Pakistan, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Thailand and Morocco, according to a Department of Defense notice online.

Airbus Helicopters secures ACH160 order in Philippines
Airbus Helicopters has secured its first Southeast Asian order for the medium-twin ACH160, with a single example going to an undisclosed operator in the Philippines.
“Airbus Helicopters has secured an ACH160 order from an undisclosed new customer in the Philippines, launching this new model in the Southeast Asia and Pacific region,” says the company.

US DOT grants final approval for American-Qantas joint venture
Dallas/Fort Worth-based American Airlines and Australian flag carrier Qantas have received final approval from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to operate a joint venture between the US and Australasia. The expanded partnership will allow the codeshare partners to increase their coordination across planning, pricing, sales and logistics.

Cathay Pacific completes HK Express acquisition
Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways has completed the acquisition of LCC HK Express, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the oneworld member.
Cathay Pacific CEO Rupert Hogg will become HK Express chairman and Cathay’s former director-commercial & cargo Ronald Lam will lead the LCC as its CEO.

Egyptian Minister frustrated with BA’s decision to cancel Cairo flights
Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Younes Elmasry expressed his frustration in a July 21 statement in response to the British Airways (BA) decision to suspend flights to Cairo International Airport for seven days.
“The decision was taken unilaterally without conferring with competent Egyptian bodies,” he said.

AirAsia ordered to pay at least $9.9 million to Malaysia Airports
The Malaysian High Court in Kuala Lumpur has ordered AirAsia and AirAsia X to pay operator Malaysian Airport Sepang (MA Sepang) MYR40.73 million ($9.9 million) in unpaid passenger service charges after ruling in favor of the national airport operator.
The LCC was also ordered to pay MYR972,381 and MYR24,000 for late payment and lawsuit fees, respectively.

Korean Air finalizes 787-9, -10 orders
Korean Air has finalized a deal with Boeing that will significantly boost the airline’s 787 fleet.
The South Korea flag carrier has confirmed orders for 10 787-9s and 10 -10s, in a deal that was first announced as an MOU at the Paris Air Show on June 18. At that time, it also revealed a deal to lease another 10 -10s from Air Lease Corp.

Investigators cite pilot error, training for Air Niugini 737 crash
The pilots that flew an Air Niugini Boeing 737-800 into a lagoon on final approach to Micronesia’s Chuuk International Airport (TKK) in September 2018 did not follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) or respond to numerous terrain-warning alerts, a final report on the fatal accident found. Investigators also uncovered several organizational safety issues within the airline, including pilot-training shortcomings, that the carrier has addressed.

Jet Airways bankruptcy process begins; awaits asset bidders
A timetable has been set for applicants to bid for the remaining assets of India’s Jet Airways as the bankruptcy process begins.
Jet Airways has been grounded since April 17 after cash ran out and efforts to find new investors failed. Creditors invoked the bankruptcy process last month when an insolvency petition was filed with India’s National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

IndiGo swings back to cash for some aircraft deliveries
Indian budget carrier IndiGo is once again looking at opportunities to pay cash outright for some of its future aircraft deliveries.
The airline has long relied on sale-and-leaseback financing for its fleet, but in May 2018 signalled that it would seek to place more aircraft on its balance sheet.

The intrepid London Luton Airport staff who cycled to Amsterdam via Paris and Brussels for charity have raised an impressive £60,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The 23-strong team completed the 410 mile route in just four days to raise funds for Macmillan, which is the airport's charity partner for 2018/19.
