Analysts revise MAX outlook on extended grounding, delivery halts

Researchers warn of contrail impact on climate
The climate impact from aircraft contrails will triple by 2050, increasing faster than aviation can reduce its carbon emissions, a new study by researchers at German aerospace center DLR concludes. Contrail cirrus—persistent high-altitude ice clouds produced by water vapor in engine exhausts—can trap heat inside the Earth’s atmosphere. This causes radiative forcing, a difference between the sunlight absorbed by the Earth and the energy radiated back into space.

Recaro targets business-class seat segment
Recaro Aircraft Seating has set a new strategic target to become the dominant player in business class seats now that it is firmly established as the leading seat provider in the economy class market. “Business class is highly attractive,” Recaro Aircraft Seating CEO Mark Hiller told ATW. “We will not increase our share in the economy segment but rather grow with the market. But we want to become the market leader in business class.”

Turkish Aerospace has performed the first certification flight of its T625 Gokbey intermediate-twin helicopter.
Carried out using the second flight-test prototype (TC-HLI), the sortie took place on 29 June.

PICTURE: Textron Aviation delivers 300th CJ4
Textron Aviation has delivered the 300th Cessna Citation CJ4 to the US metals distribution company and long-time fractional owner of a CJ1+, McNeilus Steel.
The handover of the light business jet on 27 June came nine years after the CJ4 entered service as Cessna's largest and longest-range light-twin.

Bombardier revamps Learjet 75 with six-passenger Liberty
Bombardier has launched the Learjet 75 Liberty – a "rescoped" version of its light jet that trims accommodation and options to bring the list price below the crucial $10 million mark.
Removal of two seats from the usually eight-passenger aircraft allows installation of a pair of "executive suites" at the front of the 6m (19ft 10in)-long cabin, with ottoman footrests folding out from the partition in front, as well as four seats in a club configuration further aft.

PICTURE: Embraer delivers first Praetor 600
Embraer delivered the first Praetor 600 on 28 June to an undisclosed European customer – and says it is preparing to hand over more of the super-midsize jets over the coming weeks.
The milestone came less than two months after the Praetor 600 had secured US and European approval, becoming the first aircraft to be certificated in the super-midsize sector since the Bombardier Challenger 350 in 2014.

Singapore, Maldives sign Open Skies agreement to boost services
The governments of Singapore and Maldives signed an Open Skies agreement July 1 to expand connectivity between two countries.
The agreement, signed on the sidelines of a state visit by Maldivian president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Singapore, enables airlines from Singapore and Maldives to operate as many passenger flights or cargo services between both countries, and—using fifth freedom rights—to a third country.

Russia-Czech Republic route dispute cancels some flights
Russia’s Aeroflot Airline and Ural Airlines were forced to cancel or delay flights to Prague July 2 because of an unsolved dispute over Trans-Siberian rights between Russia and Czech Republic.
Aeroflot—which canceled flights SU2010/2011, SU2014/2015, SU2016/2017 and SU2018/2019 between Moscow Sheremetyevo and Prague—said the Czech Republic rescinded approval for these services.

Fiji Airways suspends Adelaide route; Korean Air ceases Fiji flights
The popular Fiji leisure market is seeing some significant changes as Fiji Airways plans to suspend an Australian route and Korean Air terminates flights to Fiji.
Korean Air confirmed it will close its route from Seoul to Nadi, Fiji from Oct. 1. It currently offers three flights a week on this service, which it has operated since 1995.

Southwest expects 737 Max grounding to extend beyond October
Southwest Airlines chief executive Gary Kelly expects the airline's Boeing 737 Max fleet to be grounded beyond 1 October, following new issues uncovered with the aircraft by US regulators.
The Dallas-based carrier had recently extended its 737 Max cancellations through 1 October, but Kelly told employees in an internal update that additional problems with the aircraft will result in a longer delay in the aircraft returning to service.

SpiceJet 737 suffers runway excursion in rainy Mumbai
Another SpiceJet aircraft suffered a runway excursion, the second such incident in two days.
On 1 July evening, one of the airline’s Boeing 737-800 overran the runway at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj airport after landing in heavy rain. The aircraft was operating flight SG6237 from Jaipur.

PICTURES: ANA introduces 777F to fleet
All Nippon Airways (ANA) has introduced a Boeing 777 Freighter to its fleet, to meet increased cargo transportation demand in Asia and North America.
The carrier received the freighter on 24 May at Tokyo Haneda International airport, where it will operate cargo flights on the Tokyo Narita-Osaka Kansai-Shanghai Pudong route between 2 July and 25 August.

Garuda's LCC Citilink to start long-haul flights with A330neos
Garuda Indonesia's low-cost arm Citilink is preparing to launch long-haul services in the fourth quarter with Airbus A330-900s.
Speaking at a press conference on 30 June, Citilink's chief executive Juliandra Nurtjahjo says the airline will receive two A330neos between October and December, which will enable it to launch flights into Frankfurt and Jeddah.

China Southern moves Ho Chi Minh flights to Beijing Daxing
China Southern Airlines will be moving flights between Beijing and Ho Chi Minh City to Beijing Daxing Airport, as it gears up for operations at the new airport.
Cirium’s schedules data shows that China Southern flies daily between the Beijing Capital and Ho Chi Minh. Flights are currently operated with an Airbus A320.

SFO renews level 3 carbon accreditation certification
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has renewed its Level 3 'Optimisation' certification in ACI's Airport Carbon Accreditation programme for another three years.
First awarded to SFO in 2016, the re-certification at the programme’s 'Level 3' recognises SFO for greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and management from its own operations as well as collaboration with third parties, such as airlines and service providers, in reduction strategies.

Trials at Fiumicino Airport reveal that simple fingerprint drug screening helps airport and border control teams to respond to drug mule suspects in just 10 minutes.
Following successful trials at Fiumicino Airport, a new fingerprint drug-screening approach is now available to provide airport and border control staff with a rapid and hygienic way of screening for suspected drug mules.
