PARIS 2019: Lessor NAC signs for 105 more ATRs
Regional aircraft lessor Nordic Aviation Capital has signed a $2 billion letter of intent to take 35 more ATRs, along with 35 options and purchase rights on a further 35 aircraft.
Speaking at the Paris Air Show, NAC chairman Martin Moller said the deposits have been paid and the order is as good as firm. “It’s a given,” he said.

PARIS 2019: ALC details ideal NMA configuration amid 787 deals
Air Lease Corp. (ALC) has sketched out what would be its ideal requirements for Boeing’s forthcoming new midmarket airplane (NMA).
“5,000nm range seems about right. Two different variants seem about right to us,” ALC CEO and president John Plueger said at the Paris Air Show. “Passenger numbers: about 220 for the smaller [version], 270 for the larger.

Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO John Slattery is “very confident” that the manufacturer will have orders for the E175-E2 before it is certified in 2021.
The company removed a SkyWest order for 100 aircraft from its backlog in 2018 because hoped diminished that US labor scope clauses limiting the size of aircraft that can be flown by regional carrier pilots would change.

Embraer has forecast worldwide demand for 10,550 new aircraft with up to 150-seats over the next 20 years, a figure unchanged from its projection last year.
Releasing the outlook at the Paris Air Show, the manufacturer said replacement aircraft would represent 45% of new deliveries, with 55% comprising market growth.

PARIS 2019: De Havilland focuses on smooth Dash 8 transition, announces African customer
De Havilland Aircraft of Canada told customers there will be no service interruptions now that its parent company has completed the acquisition of the Dash 8 program from Bombardier.
Longview Aviation Capital finalized the process June 1 and resurrected the de Havilland brand by establishing the new subsidiary.

Boeing will perform another 10 Boeing 737-800 freight conversions for GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) and is considering cargo markets for other programs, including the potential new midmarket aircraft (NMA) and Boeing 787.
GECAS, which was the launch customer for Boeing’s 737 Boeing Converted Freighters (BCF) program, firmed up purchase rights on a further 10 737-800BCFs on the first day of the Paris Air Show and secured new purchase rights on a further 15.

Heathrow expansion masterplan is revealed
A masterplan for London Heathrow Airport’s expansion and third runway has been published and made available for public comment and consultation through Sept. 13.
The phased proposal would see the new runway built by 2026, but the entire expansion plan continuing to 2050.

International traffic soars at Moscow Sheremetyevo
Moscow Sheremetyevo is on target for another record breaking year aftter registering a 15.4% rise in passenger traffic in the first five months of 2019.
A total of 18.7 million passengers passed through its facilities between January 1 and May 31, during which time the Russian gateway handled 155,120 aircraft movements – 15.8% up on the corresponding period a year ago.

R-R engine upgrade to extend Thai Hercules life
Rolls-Royce has received an engine upgrade contract that will extend Thailand’s operational use of the Lockheed Martin C-130H tactical transport and also reduce the maintenance demands of its turboprop engines.
Announced on 18 June, the deal makes Bangkok "the first international customer to update its C-130H fleet with the T56 Series 3.5 engine upgrade", R-R says.

PARIS: F-35 to take about half of fighter market over next decade
The worldwide fighter market could grow by 17.2% over the next decade, representing a total output of 3,401 aircraft.
That production volume would be worth $264 billion in FY2019 dollars, according to a report by Forecast International.

PARIS: StormBreaker foul-weather precision bomb to IOC in 2019
The US Air Force is likely to declare Raytheon’s foul-weather precision bomb, the StormBreaker, to have initial operational capability (IOC) on the Boeing F-15 fighter before the end of 2019.
Raytheon says as of 6 June the weapon had been test-dropped from aircraft more than 100 times during developmental testing, government confidence testing and operational testing.

PARIS: Bell-Boeing tries to sell V-22 despite lacklustre interest
With its ability to offer bulk discounts to foreign militaries closing within about a year, the Bell-Boeing joint venture that makes and sells the V-22 Osprey hopes to close deals for up to 50 aircraft.
Boeing says that about a dozen prospective customers are on its radar, and it is encouraging them to sign a letter of offer and acceptance (LOA) for the tiltrotor by the third quarter of 2020.

PARIS: Lockheed unveils maritime patrol kit for C-130 Hercules
Lockheed Martin is working on a maritime patrol aircraft retrofit kit for the C-130 Hercules.
The kit is intended to "roll on" new C-130Js, as well as legacy variants of the military transport, with initial concepts calling for wing-mounted Harpoon anti-ship missiles and clusters of Hellfire air-to-ground missiles, as well as torpedoes to be stored in the cargo bay and launched off the back ramp.
