Germania announces imminent new funding
Independent Berlin-based carrier Germania says it has found a solution to cover its short-term liquidity requirements. The family-run company said Jan. 9 that it was looking at a variety of options to assure its short-term funding, following a challenging period marked by increasing fuel prices, a weaker euro currency and delays in bringing aircraft into service.

Udvar-Hazy: A321XLR should be able to do 10-hour missions
The proposed Airbus A321XLR “will go well beyond the capabilities Airbus imagined for the A320”, according to Air Lease Corp. (ALC) chairman Steve Udvar-Hazy. ALC is “spending a lot of time” with Airbus specifying the requirements for the XLR and with Boeing for its planned new mid-market airplane (NMA).

Thai regulators force Bangkok Airways CEO resignation
Bangkok Airways has announced the resignation of its CEO after Thai regulators said he must step down and pay penalties for alleged share trading irregularities. Prasert Prasarttong-osoth, the airline’s CEO and vice-chairman, tendered his resignation Jan. 21, effective the same day, Bangkok Airways said in a stock market statement. Narumon Chainaknan, the executive secretary to the CEO, is also resigning.

SMBC Aviation Capital orders 65 more A320neos
Irish lessor SMBC Aviation Capital has switched 15 Airbus A320neos from an existing order to the larger A321neo, as well as announcing a firm follow-on order for 50 A320neos and 15 A321neos with a list-price value of $7.4 billion. Formally announcing the deal on Jan. 21, Airbus said the 65-aircraft order was finalized in 2018 and included in the manufacturer’s year-end numbers.

BA reveals 'BOAC' 747-400 retrojet; more to follow
British Airways will unveil a Boeing 747-400 "retrojet" next month adorned in the colours of its predecessor airline BOAC, as part of the airline's centenary celebrations. The UK carrier says that one of its 747-400s – registration G-BYGC – will arrive at Heathrow from the paintshop on 18 February in the BOAC scheme, and that the livery will remain in place until it retires in 2023.

Three A380s involved in UK drone airprox incidents
Three Airbus A380 flights were involved in drone encounters within London terminal airspace over the space of two months last year, according to UK investigators. The UK Airprox Board's latest run-down of incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles shows that a drone flew within 20m of a Heathrow-bound A380 operating at 3,400ft over central London on 22 July.

SriLankan looks to lease-out "unsuitable" A330-200
SriLankan Airlines is exploring options to sub-lease an Airbus A330-200 that has been sitting idle at Colombo's Bandaranaike International airport for over three months. The Oneworld carrier states that the aircraft, registered 4R-ALS (MSN 1008), was acquired in 2017 as a condition of a settlement with AerCap over its cancellation of an agreement to lease four new A350-900s, under a deal cut by the airline's previous management team.
