An Inside Look At Boeing’s 777F EcoDemonstrator
Boeing is accelerating its EcoDemonstrator technology testbed initiative with a new series of aircraft programs to be announced early in 2019. The effort, which began with the first EcoDemonstrator testbed in 2012, has so far evaluated 112 new technologies, of which 35 have transitioned into service. The EcoDemonstrator program is taking on new significance as Boeing studies advanced systems and materials for more efficient, higher-performance next-generation regional, single-aisle and widebody projects.

A Look At Hypersonic Research Through The Years
After years of on/off research, superpower competition is driving the U.S. to develop hypersonic strike weapons, beginning with rocket-boosted unpowered glide vehicles to be fielded in the early 2020s. These will use a common glide body design derived from a vehicle first tested in the late 1970s. In parallel, work is continuing on more advanced glide bodies and powered air-breathing hypersonic vehicles.

Bombardier Marks Global 7500 Entry into Service
Bombardier Aerospace marked entry-into-service of its flagship Global 7500 in a ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Dorval, Quebec, on December 20. David Coleal, president of Bombardier Business Aircraft, told the more than 1,000 employees and well-wishers on hand that the aircraft—the largest and longest-range purpose-built business jet, according to Bombardier—is “the gateway to transforming the business aviation landscape.”

Air France KLM Cargo expands myCargo platform
Air France KLM Cargo has expanded its myCargo customer platform with the ability to make instant 24/7 bookings of up to four tonnes and also it can now also handle pharma shipments.
The airline said it had also launched an API (Application Programming Interface) capability to enable customers to directly connect its “Quote & Book” online booking tool into their systems.

Saudi Cargo's Cirque du soleil freighter flights
Saudi Airlines Cargo recently transported 400 tons of equipment and supplies for the international event Cirque du soleil on four B747-400 freighter flights.
The equipment was flown from Zagreb, Croatia, to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where the circus show is taking place from December 17-29.

European airlines call for tougher laws and enforcement for drones
As Gatwick Airport remains closed due to a drone-related incident, the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) has called for “more robust and harmonised” European Union (EU)-wide safety regulations.
It said that “necessary steps” are needed to prevent the flying of unregulated drones near airports and aircraft.

Delta Air Lines: widebody fleet revamp on the horizon
Delta Air Lines has touted the benefits of its upgauging strategy for years, and its narrowbody upgauge continues in 2019 as it builds up a fleet of Airbus A220 narrowbodies. The airline has calculated that it will be refleeting up to 35% of its mainline fleet during the next five years.
At YE2018, Delta was preparing for the first revenue flights of its A220s on routes from New York LaGuardia to Dallas and Boston. The airline touts that the aircraft offers a superior experience to its existing equipment while driving down costs.

Frankfurt-Hahn hails new freighter routes to China
Germany's Frankfurt-Hahn Airport reported that it has seen a 58.4% increase in freight volumes from January to October 2018, compared with the same period in 2017.
Frankfurt-Hahn, in which China's HNA Airport Group has a majority stake, handled around 127,000 tons of freight in 2017.The federal state of Hesse holds 17.5%.

Seattle Tacoma International airport has posted significant passenger growth during the past few years, driven mostly by Delta’s decision to develop Seattle as its long haul springboard from the US West Coast. As Delta has grown, the airport’s dominant airline – Alaska Air Group – has asserted its position with its own expansion from its largest hub.
