IATA survey reveals passengers want more real-time updates
Air travelers want airlines to deliver more real-time information to their personal devices, including updates on flight status (82%), baggage (49%) and wait-times at security and immigration checkpoints (46%), according to survey data from IATA’s latest Global Passenger Survey (GPS), released Oct. 2.

IATA: Global passenger growth, freight volumes trend up in August
Global airline passenger growth remained strong in August, with traffic demand rising 6.5% year-over-year (YOY), slightly higher than the 6.1% increase recorded in July. Capacity for the month grew 5.5%, and load factor edged up 0.7% to 85.3%—the highest for any month since at least 1990, according to data from IATA’s Air Passenger Market Analysis released Oct. 1.

EASA, FAA approve Airbus A321neo for long-range operations
The Airbus A321neo has won joint approval for long-range operations from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the FAA, paving the way for flexible long-range operations for its launch customers. Airbus said up to three underfloor additional center tanks (ACTs) are now certified on the A321neo, including for ETOPS operation.

FAA to start phased evaluation of space-based ADS-B in 2019
The FAA next year will begin a phased evaluation of satellite-aided surveillance of aircraft flying over oceanic spaces, including use of the Aireon space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) systemscheduled to begin operating in 2019.

Airbus points to lower-weight variant of BelugaXL
Airbus technical data on the new BelugaXL logistics transport shows that the aircraft is being developed with two weight variants. While the initial version will have a maximum take-off weight of 227t, the airframer’s newly-published technical details identify a second version with a lighter MTOW of 205t.

FAA proposes $474,000 civil penalty against Frontier Airlines
The FAA has proposed a $474,000 civil penalty against Denver, Colorado-based Frontier Airlines, alleging the company operated hundreds of flights without required medical supplies. The agency alleges Frontier employees installed emergency medical kits on 11 airplanes lacking either injectable epinephrine, atropine or both.

Taiwanese carrier EVA Air took delivery of its first Boeing 787 today at Boeing's manufacturing site in South Carolina. The hand-off of the aircraft – a 787-9 owned by Air Lease – puts EVA on track to begin deploying the type on international routes in November, Boeing says in a media release.
