De-icing fluid found in CRJ engine after start-up flaming
Canadian investigators have disclosed that a SkyWest Airlines Bombardier CRJ200 which emitted flame from an engine on start-up had accumulated de-icing fluid in the powerplant. The jet (N430SW) had been preparing to depart Winnipeg for Minneapolis and had taxied to the de-icing area, where fluid was applied with the left-hand General Electric CF34 engine shut down.

Superjet defended after spate of unreliable-speed events
Russian investigators have disclosed that seven instances of unreliable airspeed indications involving Sukhoi Superjet 100s were recorded over a two-day period of heavy snowfall at Moscow Sheremetyevo. Federal air transport regulator Rosaviatsia says the incidents were each characterised by "different speed readings" between the captain's and the first officer's side, either during the take-off run or the initial climb.

Qantas reveals indigenous livery on latest 787-9
Qantas has released the first pictures of its latest aircraft to bear an indigenous-inspired livery, this time on a Boeing 787-9. Based on the work ‘Yam Dreaming’ by late Northern Territory artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye, the scheme was adapted by design studio Balarinji.

CAAC gives early approval for Inner Mongolian airline start-up
The Civil Aviation Administration of China has given preliminary approval for a new carrier to be based at Hohhot Baita International airport. Called Tianjiao Airlines, the proposed carrier will operate domestic and regional passenger and cargo services using Bombardier CRJ900s.

Delta A330 makes emergency landing in Lagos
Several passengers were injured while evacuating a Delta Air Lines Airbus A330-200 after an engine issue forced the pilots to make an emergency landing in Lagos. Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines power the aircraft, according to Flight Fleets Analyzer.

Delta interested in Boeing NMA to replace 757 and 767s
Delta Air Lines finds the proposed Boeing New Mid-market Airplane (NMA) "interesting", after reports that it hopes to launch the new aircraft. "Based on what we've heard initially from Boeing about the NMA programme, Delta finds it to be an interesting concept and could be a long-term replacement for some 757s and 767s," the Atlanta-based carrier says in response to a Bloomberg report that Delta chief executive Ed Bastian hopes the airline could launch the program

Spirit AeroSystems ships 10,000th 737 fuselage
The 10,000th Boeing 737 is close to entering final assembly in Renton, Washington. A train carrying the 10,000th 737 fuselage left Spirit AeroSystems’ factory in Wichita, Kansas on 13 February, the supplier says.

CSeries engines not afflicted with PW1100G issues
Bombardier and Pratt & Whitney confirm that CSeries' PW1500G geared turbofans have not been afflicted with engine issues that recently grounded dozens of Airbus A320neo-family aircraft. "Pratt & Whitney has informed us that the issue identified on the PW1100G-JM engine does not appear to impact the PW1500G engine on the Bombardier CSeries aircraft," Bombardier tells FlightGlobal. "As such, no action is required for Bombardier or our customers at this time."

Wall Street analyst predicts commercial market exit for Bombardier
A top Wall Street analyst views Bombardier’s pending sale of the CSeries programme to Airbus as a key step in the Canadian manufacturer’s larger plan to exit the commercial aircraft business. Speaking to the Pacific Northwest Aviation Alliance conference near Seattle on 13 February, Merrill Lynch senior equity analyst Ron Epstein traced the agreement to the hiring of chief executive Alain Bellemare in February 2015.

American Airlines to expand service with new flights from Philadelphia
American Airlines will beef up its offerings from Philadelphia International Airport to include year-round flights to Zurich and seasonal service to Prague and Budapest. The carrier will also add service to Des Moines, Iowa; Madison, Wis.; and Omaha, Neb.

Alaska Airlines unveils heart sculpture at San Francisco airport
Just in time for Valentine's Day, Alaska Airlines unveiled its new heart sculpture in San Francisco International Airport's Terminal 2. Designed by artist Gina Teichert, the sculpture was commissioned to signify the airline's commitment to serving the San Francisco community with "kind-hearted service" and its partnership with the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation.

$1.1B concourse planned for Honolulu airport
Hawaii Gov. David Ige unveiled designs for a $1.1 billion, 800,000-square-foot concourse at Honolulu International Airport. The 10-year project could include 12 to 14 gates, a second area for international arrivals and a better security checkpoint.

A sequence of events that began with the shooting down of an Iranian copy of the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel stealth unmanned air vehicle led to an Israeli air force Lockheed F-16I being shot down, and a massive aerial attack being launched against at least a dozen targets inside Syria. Brig Gen Tomer Bar, second in command of the Israeli air force, says the Israeli strike inside Syria was "the biggest and most significant attack the air force has conducted against Syrian air defenses" since the 1982 Lebanon War.
