LOT: Poland needs new airport to avoid Warsaw Chopin growth limits
The Polish government has approved a plan to build a new central airport, allocating as much as PLN35 billion ($9.6 billion) by 2027, Bloomberg reported. The new airport, which will likely be located in central Poland between the capital Warsaw and Lodz.

Finnair expects to triple 2016 operating profit
Finnair has again stepped up its 2017 full-year operating profit outlook to over €155 million ($180 million) - nearly triple the €55 million figure it posted in 2016 - exceeding the top end of its most recent €135-155 million guidance. The Finnish flag carrier originally expected to deliver a €110 operating profit in 2017, doubling its 2016 performance, but this was upgraded to the €135-155 million range in September.

Aircraft interiors manufacturer AIM Altitude names new CEO
UK-based aircraft interiors designer and manufacturer AIM Altitude has promoted group commercial director Richard Bower to CEO, succeeding Mark Edwards in the role. Bower, who will become CEO on Jan. 1, joined the group in 2011 and has held his current role since 2013. His previous positions include CEO of SELL, which was part of the Premium Aircraft Group, and CEO positions with Renaissance Capital and RBS Equity Finance.

Former Croatia Airlines chief to head Gulf Air
Middle Eastern carrier Gulf Air has named ex-Croatia Airlines head Kresimir Kucko as its new chief executive. The Bahraini flag-carrier has been seeking a new chief since the resignation of Maher Salman Al Musallam earlier this year.

Emirates set to push 787-10 backlog over 200
Emirates' tentative agreement for 40 Boeing 787-10s will, once firmed, take orders for the new twinjet to more than 200. Boeing had secured orders for 171 of the variant, the largest version of the 787, by the end of October.

Azerbaijan opts for more 787s and two freighters
Azerbaijan Airlines has revised an agreement for additional Boeing 787s, in a deal which will involve taking five more of the type. The carrier is also to commit to purchasing two large freighters – although the type has yet to be confirmed.

Emirates looks to put new 777 suites on A380 too
Emirates is working to revamp the first-class suites on its Airbus A380s, having formally unveiled the new private cabins on a Boeing 777-300ER. The Dubai-based airline's first-class modernisation – featuring six suites in the -300ER – is effectively a precursor to the cabin which will feature on its new 777X from 2020.

A380 deal in prospect after late Emirates talks
Middle Eastern carrier Emirates could unveil a follow-on agreement for 35-40 Airbus A380s as early as today, after the operator conducted last-minute negotiations for an opening-day deal. Emirates would be more likely to stay – at least for now – with the current A380 rather than the modified A380plus, for fleet simplicity, although it could take advantage of certain enhancements associated with the A380plus.

EVA Air takes first 777 Freighter
EVA Air has taken delivery of its first Boeing 777 Freighter, as part of its fleet modernisation plan. It will put the aircraft on services between Asia and North America in late November, says the Taiwanese airline in a statement. It currently operates cargo services to the North American points of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth and Atlanta.

Allegiant phases out 757s and exits Hawaii
Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air has phased out its final Boeing 757-200s, marking an end to the carrier's Hawaii service. An Allegiant Air spokesperson confirms that the airline's final 757 flight was operated on 28 October between Las Vegas and Honolulu.

Boeing achieves 90% drawing milestone on 777-9
Boeing reached the 90% engineering drawing release milestone for the 777-9 on 7 November, vice-president and 777X general manager Eric Lindblad has disclosed. The milestone event within Boeing's engineering system signals that suppliers are now in the advanced stages of production of the parts for the first aircraft.

Tariffs won't apply to US-assembled CSeries
Bombardier intends to start building a $300 million aircraft factory in Alabama immediately after the CSeries joint venture's sale to Airbus closes – and CS100s delivered to US customers from that facility will not be subject to a possible import tariff, predicts the president of the Canadian airframer's commercial aircraft unit, Fred Cromer.

Local low-cost carrier Flydubai puts its first Max on show
Middle Eastern budget operator Flydubai has put its first 737 Max jet on display to mark the fifth time it has attended its hometown's air show. The Max 8 (registered A6-MAX) is the first to be delivered from an order disclosed during the 2013 edition of the event.

KC-46 trims major deficiencies to one
Boeing’s long-troubled KC-46A tanker development program is nearing resolution, with only one outstanding deficiency expected to remain after this month, the company’s top defence executive says. The program entered this year with three “Category 1” deficiencies in US Air Force acquisition terminology. The first of those has been resolved and the second is expected to be approved by the USAF later this month, says Leanne Caret, chief executive of Boeing Defense, Space and Security.

Japan’s C-2 makes overseas debut in push for export sales
The Kawasaki Heavy Industries C-2 is making its debut outside of Japan at the air show, as the country pushes for export sales of the military transport. Powered by General Electric CF6 engines, the aircraft has been developed as a successor to the Kawasaki C-1 in both strategic and tactical airlift missions.
