AirAsia X chasing Europe; open to other aircraft types
AirAsia X wants to relaunch services to Europe "as quick as possible", and is looking at aircraft other than Airbus A330s to get there. Speaking to FlightGlobal,the chief executive of AirAsia X's core Malaysian operation, Benyamin Ismail, says that its fleet plans have changed.

Delta pilots oppose larger regional aircraft, in blow to Embraer
Delta Air Lines Inc pilots are expected to keep existing rules in their new labor contract that prevent the U.S. No. 2 carrier from flying aircraft above a certain weight on regional routes, in a blow to Embraer SA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd , whose latest models exceed that limit. The pilots' new labor contract will keep what is known as a "scope clause," which restricts planes heavier than 86,000 pounds and with more than 76 seats from being flown on regional routes, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Fastjet chairman stands down as carrier plans new funding bid
Fastjet chairman Colin Child has resigned from his post as the African airline prepares to raise more capital next year due to additional costs associated with its restructuring plan. In a trading update, the African carrier says: "Having led the fund raising exercise in July this year, Colin believes that it would not be appropriate for him to continue in this role given the company is initiating, sooner than originally expected, a further fund raising exercise”. The carrier is planning a fresh capital raising effort in the first quarter of 2017.

Lufthansa Union Suspends Pilot Strikes
Lufthansa’s pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit has called a halt for now to the series of strikes that has crippled the airline. The VC union on Friday rejected an increased pay offer from Lufthansa but suspended further industrial action beyond Saturday’s long-haul strike.

ACI-LAC appoints Quito's Andrew O'Brian as its new vice president
The appointment, rubber stamped at ACI-LAC's recent Annual Assembly Conference & Exhibition held in Brasilia, is for two years. O’Brian says: “For several years, Quiport has actively participated in ACI-LAC and its diverse committees. The fact that we have constructed and operated one of the top airports in the region allows us to be one of the leaders of the industry.

Consortium acquires Russia's Vladivostok International Airport
Other consortium members include Basic Element and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). Located in Russia's Far East, the gateway is currently owned by Sheremetyevo International Airport.

Finland receives five responses for HX fighter procurement
Finland has received information from five aircraft primes regarding the replacement of its air force’s Boeing F/A-18C/D Hornet fleet. The HX fighter replacement program was kicked off in November 2015 by defense minister Jussi Niinistö. This was followed some weeks later by the issue of a request for information (RFI) from the government to five manufacturers.

Canada's F-35 participation deserves scrutiny
Canada’s crazily protracted process to acquire a new fighter has been the subject of another unexpected plot twist, with its defence minister announcing a plan to order an interim batch of 18 Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. So, given prime minister Justin Trudeau’s pre- and post-election lambasting of Lockheed Martin’s F-35, that’s it for the Lightning II in Ottawa, right? Wrong.
