Bombardier delivers first CS100 to Swiss
Bombardier has delivered the first CS100 to launch operator Swiss in a ceremony at its Montreal manufacturing facilities. The 125-seat aircraft will enter service between the Star Alliance carrier’s Zurich base and Paris Charles de Gaulle on 15 July.

​Farnborough debut still in prospect for E190-E2
Embraer is hopeful of giving a Farnborough air show debut to its E190-E2, despite previous indications to the contrary. Since the maiden sortie of the re-engined, re-winged E-Jet on 23 May, around 37h has been accumulated in test flights.

Air Canada to build fuel-efficient fleet with CS300s, CEO says
Air Canada announced the finalization of an order for 45 Bombardier CS300s. "Finalizing the CS300 order is a key element to Air Canada's strategy to build one of the world's youngest and most fuel efficient fleets," said Calin Rovinescu, president and CEO of the carrier.

Alaska to offer daily Seattle-San Luis Obispo service
Alaska Airlines plans to launch nonstop service between Seattle and San Luis Obispo, Calif. The daily flight will start in April.

ANA orders three Bombardier Q400s
Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) has placed a firm order for three Bombardier Q400s. The aircraft are valued at $93.9 million at list prices. ANA said in a statement that the turboprops will be delivered in its 2017 fiscal year, which will run from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.

easyJet Working On Alternative EU Operating License
easyJet has accelerated talks on setting up an aircraft operating license in a different EU country following Britain's vote to leave the European Union, but says the industry's fundamentals remain strong. "It is business as usual. We have to spend a little more time formalising conversations we've had and thinking through the next steps," Carolyn McCall told Reuters news agency.

ET CEO: A350 XWB takes Ethiopian Airlines ‘to the next level’
Ethiopian Airlines took delivery of the first of 14 Airbus A350 XWBs on June 28, making it Africa’s first operator of the type. It is also the Addis Ababa-based carrier’s first Airbus aircraft in its 70-year history. “Adding the A350-900 to the fleet means the company is now moving to the next level. Our A350 and Boeing 787-8s are next-generation aircraft,” Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Tewolde Gebremariam told ATW at the delivery ceremony in Toulouse.

JetBlue boosts seasonal service to Dominican Republic
JetBlue Airways expanded service to two cities in the Dominican Republic from John F. Kennedy Airport. The seasonal flights to Puerto Plata and Punta Cana will continue through Sept. 6.

Meridiana reaches deal with unions
Italian carrier Meridiana has agreed a redundancy package with its trade unions, a prerequisite to Qatar Airways taking a stake in the struggling Sardinia-based company. After days of negotiations that at one point saw Qatar Airways walk away from the table, Meridiana’s unions agreed a package of job reductions and cuts to salaries.

Southwest unveils wider seats
Southwest Airlines is installing new seats from B/E Aerospace. "The new aircraft seats are the widest economy seats available in the single-aisle 737 market, and offer a unique design that gives our customers what they asked for: more space," said Bob Jordan, executive vice president and chief commercial officer for Southwest.

SriLankan Airlines cuts European services
Oneworld member SriLankan Airlines will close two out of three European services this fall. It will axe services from Colombo to Frankfurt from Oct. 30 and to Paris Charles de Gaulle from Nov. 6, leaving just one flight to Europe—a daily Colombo-London Heathrow A330-300 service. The airline said in a June 27 statement the two unprofitable routes were dropped as the Sri Lanka flag carrier prepares for difficult market conditions and searches for ways to become more competitive.

Istanbul Ataturk operations resume after bombing
Turkish Airlines has resumed flight operations at its main base, Istanbul Ataturk, following the attack on the airport on 28 June. The airline says it is restarting its entire schedule, although it is offering a rebooking service to passengers planning to travel up to 5 July.

BWI sees increase in travelers
Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport reported a 3.7% increase in passenger traffic in April on a year-over-year basis. The airport handled 2.1 million passengers in April.

Suicide Bombers Kill 41 At Istanbul Airport
Turkish investigators are examining video footage and witness statements after three suspected Islamic State suicide bombers opened fire and blew themselves up in Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, killing 41 people and wounding 239. The attack on Europe's third-busiest airport was the deadliest in a series of suicide bombings this year as Turkey struggles to contain spillover from Syria's civil war.

RAF C-17 deploys to Hungary for joint training
A Boeing C-17 strategic transport belonging to the Royal Air Force has been deployed to Hungary for the first time, to carry out night vision training alongside the multinational Heavy Airlift Wing’s fleet of the same type. The aircraft, from the RAF's 99 Sqn, departed its Brize Norton base in Oxfordshire for Pápa air base in Hungary on 20 June, and was escorted towards the end of its journey by a Saab Gripen C from the Hungarian air force’s 59/1 Puma Sqn.

OGMA submits Hercules upgrade bid to Gabon
Gabon is considering whether to bring an elderly B-model variant of the Lockheed Martin C-130 back to flyable condition, in order to double the size of its air force’s transport fleet. The 1976-built aircraft (TR-KKB) is currently at the Alverca facility of Portuguese maintenance and overhaul specialist OGMA, following its recovery from the African state.It had not flown for about eight years and needed to be transported by road and ship, arriving in Portugal on 24 December 2015. It has since been subjected to an in-depth inspection and disassembled, including the removal it its wings and tail.

KC-390 confirmed for Farnborough debut
Embraer is to give its developmental KC-390 tanker/transport an international debut at the Farnborough air show, ahead of a multi-national promotional tour for the jet-powered type. One of two flight-test examples will make the journey across the Atlantic, initially arriving on 4 July at the Alverca site of OGMA, the Portuguese aerostructures supplier which is 65% owned by Embraer. The company builds parts, including the main fuselage, for the programme. The aircraft will then transfer to the UK show around two days later, Embraer says.

Dassault Falcon 8X bizjet approved to fly in Europe
Dassault Aviation's new Falcon 8X business jet has gained approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency. The company expects FAA certification by the end of July.
