SpiceJet $11 Billion Deal Rests on Timeliness
SpiceJet Ltd., the Indian budget carrier choosing between Boeing Co. and Airbus Group SE for its at least $11 billion order, has one condition: Delivery needs to be on time. "One of the selling points for anybody to make the offer more attractive to SpiceJet would be early deliveries," Chairman Ajay Singh said in an interview at the airline’s headquarters near New Delhi. "When Airbus and Boeing are talking to us, they are mindful of the fact that we need early deliveries."

Alaska Airlines flew its first rebranded 737-900ER last month in the skies above Washington state. The flight took off Jan. 27 with a new livery.

American Airlines to sell optional ancillary services through Sabre
American Airlines announced an agreement with Sabre Corp. to sell ancillary products. "American Airlines customers love Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Seats, and we're excited to have a new way to offer those seats to them through Sabre," said Cory Garner, managing director for distribution for American.

Hainan Airlines to launch second service to Calgary
China’s Hainan Airlines is gearing up to launch a second Canadian flight to Calgary, the home base of interline partner WestJet Airlines. The Haikou-based carrier plans to start service between Calgary and Beijing on June 30 with a Boeing 787, Hainan announced Feb. 5. The 3X-weekly flight will depart from Calgary and Beijing on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Hainan said this will be extended to 4X-weekly frequencies later on.

Jazeera returns to profit in 2015 after major restructure
Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways posted a net profit of KD15.4 million ($51.3 million) for 2015, reversed from a loss of KD2.8 million in 2014. The 2014 figure was skewed by a major restructuring of the airline that saw it undergoing a sale and leaseback of its fleet to an external lessor. The latest profit was made on revenue of KD58.6 million, down 6.2% compared to 2014’s figure of KD62.5 million. Passenger numbers rose 4.5% to 1.22 million, up from 1.17 million last time, while capacity rose 3.5% and load factor climbed 1% to 69%.

LATAM Air Says No Brazil Sales Impact Yet From Zika
Concerns over the Zika virus have not affected ticket sales at LATAM Airlines' TAM Brazilian unit, the regional carrier said. "So far, there has been no impact on reservations at TAM… due to the cases of Zika virus in Brazil and in other locations where the airline operates," LATAM said.

Malindo Air adds international service
Malaysian low-cost carrier (LCC) Malindo Air has launched a daily service from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which is configured in 12 business and 150 economy class seats. “We expect an upsurge in arrivals from Hong Kong with the new service,” Malindo CEO Chandran Rama Muthy said. The carrier says the new schedule will add more than 1,000 seats a week to the HKIA-KLIA route.

Southwest system traffic rose 11.1% in Jan.
Southwest Airlines posted an 11.1% increase in total system traffic for January on a year-over-year basis. The carrier also reported a 2.3% increase in load factor for the month, as compared to January of last year.

Somalia Plane Bomber Meant To Be On Turkish Flight
A suspected suicide bomber who blew a hole in the fuselage of a Daallo Airlines plane last week and forced it to make an emergency landing in Mogadishu was meant to be on a Turkish Airlines flight, Daallo's chief executive said. The bomber was sucked out of the plane through the 1 metre wide hole when the blast ripped open the pressurised cabin in flight, officials said. The pilot landed the plane in the Somali capital, from where it had taken off.

American to build 5 new gates at O'Hare
American Airlines plans to construct five new gates at Terminal 3 of Chicago O'Hare International Airport. The airline reached an agreement with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Ural Airlines to develop international network at Samara airport
Russia’s Yekaterinburg-based Ural Airlines will develop its international network from Samara’s Kurumoch International Airport. On April 29, Ural Airlines will launch weekly Airbus A320 service to Burgas (Bulgaria); on June 4, the carrier will start a weekly A320 service to Tivat (Montenegro).

Decision On UK Airport Expansion On Track For Summer
Britain should make a decision on where to build an additional runway this summer, its transport minister said, dismissing concerns it could be further delayed by a referendum on EU membership. Prime Minister David Cameron could reach a deal over Britain's ties with the European Union at a summit later this month, paving the way for a public vote on membership of the bloc possibly in June.

First ASRAAMs delivered for UK F-35 testing
MBDA has delivered the first batch of advanced short range air-to-air missiles (ASRAAM) to the USA, ahead of planned flight trials on board the UK’s Lockheed Martin F-35B Joint Strike Fighter. Delivered in January and supported by UK weapons-integration lead BAE Systems, the test examples of ASRAAM will be integrated to become the type's first British-built missile, and will be used during flight trials and air-launch tests this year.

That's a surprising (but great) news for an Airline that was almost to cease operations not so long ago !
