BOC Aviation to sell 24 aircraft
Singapore-based BOC Aviation is to sell 24 aircraft—two Boeing 777s, two Airbus A330s, 11 A320 family aircraft, seven 737NGs and two Embraer E190s—to Shenton Aircraft Investment. BOC Aviation announced the agreement on Oct. 16, covering a portfolio which is on lease to 21 airlines in 18 countries.

China's Anti-Corruption Watchdog Targets Aviation Industry
Senior Chinese airline and aviation officials misused company funds, took bribes and accepted golf outings as gifts, the country's anti-corruption watchdog said in a series of inspection reports. The Communist Party's official newspaper and its economic planning agency were also singled out by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) in its latest reports under President Xi Jinping's three-year-old anti-graft drive.

Air France To Go Ahead With 2016 Job Cuts
Air France will cut less than a third of the 2,900 jobs it proposed in a 2016/2017 plan that triggered clashes with some staff, the chief executive of parent company Air France-KLM said. The job cuts in 2016 would be voluntary and heavier job losses in 2017 could be avoided if talks with unions led to an agreement on alternative savings measures by the beginning of next year, chief executive Alexandre de Juniac.

Air Niugini to take seven former KLM Fokker 70s
Papua New Guinea flag carrier Air Niugini is to add seven former KLM Fokker 70 aircraft to its fleet, building on one existing former KLM Fokker 70 that it took in October 2014. Air Niugini said the aircraft will be used to serve domestic and regional destinations, replacing some of its Bombardier Q400 schedules including Lae, Mt. Hagen, and Hoskins, New Britain.

Delta Air Lines launches Sea-Tac service to 10 new destinations
Delta Air Lines, the second-largest carrier at Sea-Tac International Airport behind Alaska Air Group (NYSE: ALK), will also offer four daily flights to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif. Other new destinations are Boston; Orlando; Pasco; Billings, Montana; Edmonton, Alberta, and Missoula, Montana.

Hawaiian Airlines to revamp A330 cabins, adding 18 lie-flat seats
Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled a cabin redesign on its fleet of Airbus A330-200s featuring 18 lie-flat premium cabin seats. The airline will also install 28 more “extra comfort” economy seats, bringing its total to 68 premium economy seats on A330-200s. Its A330-200s will go from 294 seats to 278 total seats. Hawaiian has 21 A330-200s in its fleet and will add one more by the end of 2015.

Lufthansa Looking At Eurowings Long-Haul From Berlin
Lufthansa is interested in operating low-cost long-haul flights from Berlin under its Eurowings brand, as it seeks to win a bigger share of the budget travel market. "Berlin could also be an interesting market... At the moment we are negotiating opportunities," chief executive Carsten Spohr said at an event to mark 25 years since Lufthansa was allowed to restart flights to Berlin with Germany's reunification in 1990.

Ryanair to open Corfu base
Irish budget carrier Ryanair has announced plans to open a Corfu base, where it will station a single aircraft from April 2016. Ryanair will add 11 new routes from Corfu, nearly doubling its network from the Greek airport to 21 destinations in total. The base opening is expected to increase Ryanair’s Corfu traffic to around 300,000 passengers per year.

Spirit Airlines stock has been a nightmare for investors all year. The stock took its latest dive on Friday, falling 15%, after an investor update suggested that pricing will remain weak for the foreseeable future. Shares ended the week down a full 50% from the all-time high reached in late 2014.

Ukraine International Airlines’ 9-month traffic up 26%
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) carried 3.6 million passengers in the first nine months of 2015, up 26% year-over-year (YOY). The Ukrainian flag carrier operated 31,081 scheduled flights, up 2% YOY. UIA reported a $12.54 million operating profit, reversed from a $55.57 million operating loss in the year-ago period. The airline launched 18 new domestic and international scheduled services, including routes from Kiev to Beijing, Minsk, Riga, and Thessaloniki.

United to release plan following CEO's hospitalization
United Airlines is preparing to release details about how it plans to move forward during the hospitalization of its new CEO, Oscar Munoz. In a brief statement Monday, Chairman Henry Meyer III said the board would finish a corporate-governance review and would likely say more in the next day or two. United provided no additional information about Munoz's condition.

Hong Kong airport passenger growth up 6.3% in September
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reported handling 5.4 million passengers in September, up 6.3% year-over-year (YOY). Airport management attributed the increase to a 12% YOY growth in travel of Hong Kong residents and a “significant” rise in arrivals and departures from Japan and Southeast Asia. Aircraft movements increased 3.3% to 33,085 compared to September 2014, and transfer traffic also saw a solid 7% YOY rise.

Lockheed touts ABC laser turret as testbed completes 60 flights
Lockheed Martin claims to have overcome a major obstacle to shooting high-power laser weapons from high-speed aircraft, saying it has successfully completed 60 Aero-adaptive Aero-optic Beam Control (ABC) laser turret flight tests over the past year. The turret uses a green, low-power laser to measure the system’s effectiveness at jet cruise speeds and at different angles off the aircraft.

F-35 ejection seat fix expected by 2016 amid safety concerns
The US Air Force is demanding a long-term fix to the Martin Baker US16E (MK16) ejection seat for the Lockheed Martin F-35, after recent tests discovered “unacceptable risk of neck injury” for light-weight pilots during parachute deployment at low speeds.

FAA to require registration for unmanned aircraft
FAA will create a task force to develop recommendations for a registration process for unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs), US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and FAA Administrator Michael Huerta announced Monday. According to an FAA statement, the task force will be composed of 25 to 30 diverse representatives from the UAV and manned aviation industries, the federal government, and other stakeholders.

FAA upgrades Nicaragua to Category 1 safety rating
FAA has upgraded airlines in the Republic of Nicaragua to a Category 1, as it now complies with ICAO safety standards, the agency said in a statement. FAA said it first assessed the Republic of Nicaragua in 1994 and found it did not meet international standards.
