Delta, Virgin team up for aviation-themed lounge
Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic Airways have teamed up to open NY-LON, an aviation-themed lounge in London. Loyalty members of both airlines will receive discounts at the lounge, which is located in the O2 entertainment venue.

Delta Air Lines Shrinks Dubai Service
Delta Air Lines will reduce the number of flights to Dubai from its Atlanta hub starting October 1 as part of a Middle East capacity cut. The airline will fly between four and five times per week, down from daily service this summer. Delta revised its schedule as part of a broader 15-to-20 percent cut in capacity to the Middle East and Africa that Delta announced in April.

Finnair Traffic Performance in July 2015
In July, Finnair's overall capacity measured in Available Passenger Kilometres grew by 1.9 per cent and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew by 2.9 per cent year‐on‐year. The passenger load factor was 89.1 per cent.

Lufthansa, Cabin Crew Eye Pay Deal By November
Lufthansa and the union representing cabin crew say they are confident they will reach an agreement in a protracted dispute over pay and pensions as talks are extended. The German carrier has been in lengthy negotiations with various staff groups as it tries to cut costs to compete more effectively with low-cost airlines and Gulf rivals.

Malaysia To Inspect Debris Found In Maldives
Malaysia will send a team to the Maldives to inspect debris found there, but cautioned that it was too early to establish any connection to Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. This comes after several news reports said unidentified debris had been found in the Maldives and were being collected by authorities in case they are from the missing plane.

Baseball players lend a hand at Southwest Airlines
Wily Peralta and Scooter Gennett, who play for the Milwaukee Brewers, tried their hand at fielding for Southwest Airlines. As part of a promotion at General Mitchell International Airport, the players checked in passengers and loaded luggage for the carrier. Southwest is a corporate sponsor of the Brewers.

United Reports July 2015 Operational Performance
UAL's July 2015 consolidated traffic (revenue passenger miles) increased 2.8 percent and consolidated capacity (available seat miles) increased 2.4 percent versus July 2014. UAL's July 2015 consolidated load factor increased 0.3 points compared to July 2014.

Aspen airport resumes normal operations
American Airlines resumed its service to Aspen on Friday after diverting its two daily flights to Grand Junction on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The carrier’s CRJ700 aircraft were given clearance to fly to Aspen from Dallas and Los Angeles after a successful flight check by the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday morning, said Dustin Havel, the assistant director of operations and facilities at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport. The flights, operated by Envoy Air, were diverted because one of the airport’s localizers was broken. Localizers are navigational aids that help direct planes on their approach to the runway.

Column looks at Southwest's post-Wright amendment expansion at Dallas Love Field
Southwest Airlines added 14 additional flights on Sunday departing from Dallas Love Field. The carrier now offers 180 daily departures, after the expiration of the Wright amendment last year allowed the carrier to expand its service from Love Field.

London Heathrow to test steeper glidepaths
London Heathrow is to conduct trials with slightly steeper glidepaths from mid-September, raising the approach angle from 3° to 3.2°. The test is part of an assessment which could ultimately involve even steeper approaches of 3.5°. British Airways says it has been working with air navigation service NATS and other partners to “investigate the feasibility” of such approaches for noise abatement. While the carrier says there is still a “substantial amount to do”, Heathrow’s operator states that a six-month trial will be conducted from 14 September.

Orlando International Airport in Florida is on track to serve a record 37 million passengers by the end of the year. The airport's previous record of 36.5 million passengers was set in 2007.

Israeli air force looks for lift from CH-53K
The Israeli air force has formalised an operational requirement for Sikorsky's CH-53K heavy transport helicopter, with the type listed as a "very high priority" item for the service. While the Bell Boeing V-22 tiltrotor is on the air force's immediate shopping list, a senior officer tells Flightglobal that "the CH-53K will be part of our future helicopter fleet", due to its heavy-lift credentials. This will enable Israel's military to perform missions that only this platform is capable of, the source adds.

Jordan to acquire nine PC-9M trainers
Jordan has ordered nine Pilatus PC-9Ms to meet its future basic and advanced training requirements, the Swiss manufacturer has announced. Confirmed on 10 August, the award follows what Pilatus describes as “several years of hard negotiations”, with Amman having considered offers from “several other international competitors”. In addition to the single-engined turboprops, the Jordanian contract also covers the provision of a flight simulator and associated training equipment, plus a logistics support package.

First USAF F-16s arrive in Turkey after basing agreement
The US Air Force has moved six Lockheed Martin F-16s and 300 personnel to Incirlik Air Base in Turkey following the country’s recent decision to host US warplanes as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. The fighter jets arrived 9 August from Aviano Air Base in Italy, and are set to join the multinational air campaign against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.
