Airbus Leads Boeing In First-Half Orders
Airbus leads Boeing in orders in the first half of this year, after a tight contest at last month's Paris Air Show. Airbus said it had won orders for 382 aircraft in the first six months of the year and delivered 304 planes to customers. After cancellations and conversions between models, net orders were 348 aircraft, it said.

Boeing sees deliveries rise in first half of the year
Boeing has delivered 39 more planes so far in 2015 than in the same period in 2014 -- 381, up from 342. Boeing's single-aisle 737 has been its most popular plane this year, with the 787 Dreamliner taking the second spot.

Boeing donates first 787 to Nagoya airport
Boeing has formally donated the first 787 to Nagoya Chubu Centrair International airport, in a ceremony on 7 July. "It is fitting that we bring Boeing's first-ever 787 Dreamliner, also known as ZA001, back home to Nagoya, the heart of Japan's aerospace industry," says George Maffeo, president of Boeing Japan.

Boeing Says Loss Of Ex-Im Bank A Disadvantage
The loss of US Export-Import Bank financing would put Boeing at a "huge competitive disadvantage" since its rivals still have access to such financing support, the head of the company's commercial aircraft division, Ray Conner, said. Conner said Boeing was seeking to reassure its customers that the US Congress would soon reauthorize the bank's charter, but said the fact it had lapsed at the end of last month created some doubt.

Alaska Airlines highlights Greener Skies over Seattle benefits
Alaska Airlines is utilizing operations-enhancing procedures to improve fuel efficiency and further reduce carbon emissions at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. In what the carrier calls a "blueprint for the aviation industry," Alaska is on track to save 87 gallons of fuel, shorten flight times by about nine minutes and reduce carbon emissions by nearly one metric ton for every flight landing at Sea-Tac using Greener Skies over Seattle procedures.

American Airlines adds service between New York, Akron-Canton
American Airlines will launch daily service between Cleveland's Akron-Canton airport and New York's LaGuardia. The first flight departs Nov. 3.

Delta reports strong on-time performance in May
Delta Air Lines Inc. remained No. 1 at on-time flying in June, although the percentage of on-time flights was down. Atlanta-based Delta fell to 78.8 percent of flights arriving on time, down from 84.7 percent in May, according to on-time arrival performance data for June released y FlightView.

Delta signs agreement to charter flights for 27 NBA teams
Delta Air Lines will use Boeing 757s to ferry 27 of the 30 NBA teams to their away games. Delta will use 11 custom 757s to fulfill the agreement, which covers 4 more teams than last season.

Turkish Flight Diverted After 'Bomb Threat'
A Turkish Airlines flight from Bangkok made an emergency landing in New Delhi after a written bomb threat was found in a toilet on the Airbus A330 carrying 134 passengers, the airline and Indian security sources said. Turkish Airlines was targeted with a series of hoax bomb warnings in April and again over the weekend. This threat was found about three hours into the flight, a spokeswoman for the airline said.

Vietnam Airlines nears 777X order
Vietnam Airlines has signed an agreement with Boeing to collaborate on renewing its widebody fleet, which could see the carrier adding eight Boeing 777-8X and eight Boeing 787-10 aircraft. "We give priority to the widebody aircraft made by Boeing," says Pham Ngoc Minh, president and chief executive of the carrier, at a ceremonial handover of the carrier's first 787-9 at Ronald Reagan Washington National airport today. Ray Conner, president and chief executive of Boeing Commercial airplanes, announced the agreement at the ceremony.

Japanese P-1 MPA to make first international trip to UK and Djibouti
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries P-1 maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) will make its international debut in July, following confirmation that it is due to fly at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in the UK followed by tropical testing in Djibouti. As the UK continues to debate bringing an MPA back into operation, the P-1, which entered service with the JMSDF in 2013, will be touted on both the ground and in the air, as two of the type are due to attend the event – one in the flying display and one on static.

Typhoon will be "backbone" of future European air power
A series of upgrades and modifications that are due to be integrated into the Eurofighter Typhoon will aid the aircraft to provide the “backbone” of European air power until 2030, a paper from the Royal United Services Institute has argued. The Maximising European Combat Air Power: Unlocking the Eurofighter’s Full Potential paper notes that while in the “fiercely competitive” fighter export market all manufacturers claim to offer unmatched performance, the limited lifespans of certain types – plus the delay in the future Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter that many are acquiring – means that the Typhoon is likely to be in service past 2030.

UN urges release of all Hammarskjold DC-6 crash data
United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon is to urge the release of all pertinent information in a bid to establish the circumstances of the Douglas DC-6 crash which killed former UN chief Dag Hammarskjold. His action follows recent extensive investigation by an independent panel which attempted to determine whether any specific accounts, evidence and testimony in the wake of the September 1961 crash was worth further analysis.

IAI ponders designs for new light business jet
Israel Aerospace Industries is evaluating a number of designs for its light business jet and plans to present the shortlisted concepts to potential funding partners by the end of the year. The company is keeping details of the programme under wraps for the time being. IAI chairman Rafi Maor recently revealed that a light jet "is still being evaluated by the company and [its design] is based on a revolutionary approach”.

Luxaviation adds Phenom 300 to its 250-strong fleet
Luxaviation – the world’s second largest business aircraft operator – has taken delivery of its third Embraer Phenom 300. The light business jet brings to 18 the total Embraer fleet in the Luxembourg-headquartered company’s line-up. This consists mainly of super-midsize Legacy 600s and large cabin 650s.

Piper M600 turboprop single to make show debut at Oshkosh
Piper Aircraft’s M600 single-engined turboprop will make its show debut later this month at the AirVenture business and general aviation event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The seven-seat aircraft was launched in April and sits at the head of Piper’s nine-strong family of propeller aircraft, most of which will be on display alongside the M600 mock-up. The M600 is based on Piper’s M500 turboprop-single platform, but has a redesigned wing and advanced digital fuel management technologies. These combine, Piper says, to give the M600 a maximum range of 1,300nm (2,405km) – nearly 240nm longer than that of its stablemate.
