Boeing Predicts Strong Air Traffic, Plane Sales
Boeing expects airline passenger traffic to rise more than 6 percent in 2015, possibly close to 6.5 percent, above its long-range forecast of about 5 percent. Boeing said it still expects to book firm orders for at least 750 new planes this year, though it has booked only 136 net orders so far in 2015. "We've got work to do," to hit the order target, Randy Tinseth, Boeing vice president of marketing, said in a series of briefings ahead of the Paris Airshow that starts June 15.

Bidders Make Improved Offers For TAP
The Portuguese government has received improved offers for flag carrier TAP from the two bidding consortia, which each involve Brazil-based aviation tycoons. "The privatization process remains competitive... We have two improved offers, which is a good sign in principle," Transport Secretary Sergio Monteiro told reporters. He declined to comment on the offers, adding that the state property holding company Parpublica now had five days to analyze them before the government decides which, if any, is acceptable.

WestJet Plane Skids Off Runway In Montreal
A WestJet Airlines plane skidded off the runway while landing at Montreal's Trudeau airport on Friday, but there were no injuries, the airline said in a statement. he flight, WS588 from Toronto, stopped about 50 feet onto the grass at the end of the runway, WestJet said, adding that there was no visible damage to the plane.

IATA: Demand for air travel rose 5.9% in April
The International Air Transport Association reported that demand for air travel increased 5.9% in April. Carrier capacity increased 6.1%, while load factors decreased by a tenth of a point to 79.4%, according to the report.

Passenger traffic for American Airlines on the rise at Dayton airport
American Airlines continues to grow its presence at Dayton International Airport. The airline saw another good month in April at the Dayton International Airport with a 3.2 percent increase in passengers there, the only one of five airlines to post a gain in passengers on the month. Overall, the airport reported an 11.2 percent decline in passengers, to 86,500 passengers, compared to that month in 2014, marking the 21st consecutive month of traffic decline.

Detroit Metro Airport is receiving an $8.8 million grant from the federal government for taxiway improvements, according to an announcement from Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters. The money is being provided by the Department of Transportation.

UK yet to decide on A400M safety
Almost one month after an Airbus A400M tactical transport crashed in Spain, the UK Ministry of Defence has yet to reach a decision on whether the type can resume training operations with the Royal Air Force. “We can confirm, as requested by Airbus, that we have undertaken and completed a series of thorough checks on the UK’s A400M aircraft,” the MoD says, referring to an alert operator transmission issued by the company on 19 May. This said that the electronic control units for each Europrop International TP400-D6 powerplant should undergo “one-time, specific checks”.

Kaman restarts K-Max production on new commercial orders
At least 10 more K-Max helicopters will be produced on a revived assembly line after a 12-year hiatus, Kaman Aerospace announced on 5 June. The production restart comes after K-Max operator Rotex Helicopter placed deposits for two new aircraft, Kaman says in a news release. Helicopter Express is listed as another launch customer, but Kaman has not disclosed if the Georgia-based company has placed deposits.

EasyJet tests UAV with A320 inspection
EasyJet carried out an inspection on one of its Airbus A320s at its Luton base using a new configuration of unmanned air vehicle, ahead of a planned rollout of the capability in 12-18 months. The Remote Intelligent Survey Equipment for Radiation (Riser) quadrotor UAV – originally designed for gamma radiation inspection – and its sensors were developed by Blue Bear and Createc, and incorporate an avionics system that ensures the UAV stays 1m away from the aircraft it is inspecting.

FAA approval clears Citation Latitude for deliveries
The US Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a type certificate for the nine-passenger Citation Latitude to complete a 3.5-year-long development program, Cessna announced on 5 June. The achievement clears the last regulatory hurdle to begin making deliveries on schedule in the third quarter, introducing a new product bracketed by Cessna’s longer-range New Sovereign and shorter-range XLS+.
