Airbus unveils first higher-weight A330-300
Airbus has released photographs of its first higher-weight variant of its A330-300 in the colours of Delta Air Lines. The airframer says it has rolled the aircraft out of its Toulouse paint shop about four months after the airframe entered final assembly and less than two months after making its first flight.

Air Lease Firms Up Order For 55 Airbus Aircraft
Airbus said on Monday that Air Lease Corporation (ALC) had firmed up an order for 55 Airbus aircraft, comprising 25 A330-900neo and 30 A321LR.

Airbus sales chief confident will maintain A330 output goal
Airbus is confident it can stick to a reduced production target of six aircraft a month for its A330 wide-body jet, its sales chief said on Monday. The European planemaker recently announced a planned cut in production from the current level of 10 a month because of declining sales of its most popular wide-body jet, but still needs to win sales to secure the newly reduced target.

Alaska Airlines to offer new route from Calif. to Hawaii
Alaska Airlines announced the carrier will offer a new route between San Diego, Calif., and Kona, Hawaii. "No other airline offers more service to Hawaii from San Diego, than Alaska," said John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning for Alaska.

Delta Updates 2015 SkyMiles Program
Delta Air Lines is updating the SkyMiles program with several changes to improve the program as members earn status and redeem miles for Award tickets. Beginning today, SkyMiles members will have access to a number of program improvements, including lower One-Way Awards, improved tools for Delta customers to book Award travel, and the ability to earn Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) on partner airlines.

Malaysia Air Says Expired Battery Did Not Hinder Search
Malaysia Airlines said an expired battery in the underwater locator beacon of the flight data recorder on missing flight MH370 would have made no difference in the search for the plane. Lawyers acting for some of the families of those on board said earlier that the fact the battery had not been replaced - revealed in a weekend report on the anniversary of MH370's disappearance - could be key in any legal action against the airline.

Tantalising but vestigial satellite links with the aircraft have enabled Australian Transport Safety Bureau-led searchers to reach a consensus on where it is worth looking for the Boeing 777’s remains – but that is all.

Norwegian Air Cancels Monday Flights
Norwegian Air Shuttle has cancelled dozens of flights scheduled for Monday as talks with striking pilots failed to yield a deal. Norwegian said it would cancel all domestic flights in Norway and Sweden, some flights within Denmark, and most flights between the three Scandinavian capitals, as the strike enters its tenth day. About 25,000 passengers will be affected. However, it plans to operate its long-haul routes and most flights originating or arriving in cities outside Scandinavia, it said in a statement.

Qantas’s first 747-400 makes final flight
Qantas Airways’ first 747-400 has flown into retirement after completing an historic ferry flight to Illawarra Regional airport on 8 March. The aircraft, registered as VH-OJA (MSN 24354) and named ‘City of Canberra’, touched down at 7:47 local time at the general aviation airport, following a 15 minute ferry flight from Sydney.

UAE Minister Hits Back In Airline Subsidies Row
The United Arab Emirates' economy minister hit back at criticism of Gulf carriers during a news conference with his German counterpart on Monday, demanding those who accuse them of benefiting from government subsidies provide proof. A document compiled by a group of US airlines alleged last month that the UAE's Emirates and Etihad Airways, as well as Qatar Airways, had received more than USD$40 billion in state subsidies, giving them an unfair advantage.

United appoints members to executive team
United Airlines made multiple executive appointments and announced the creation of an aviation ground-handling operation on Friday. The Chicago-based airline said it forming the ground-handling operation to provide services not only to United but also to other carriers, similar to what American Airlines has with Eagle Ground Handling, a part of its Envoy unit, and Delta with Delta Global Services. The carrier announced the appointment of Lynda Coffman, currently vice president of food services, to run the unit.

Vietnam Airlines reveals new livery on first A350
Vietnam Airlines' first Airbus A350-900 aircraft has left the paint shop, revealing a new livery for the carrier. The aircraft will have its engines fitted and complete aninterior installation, before conducting ground and test flights, ahead of delivery of the aircraft in June.

Virgin America Reports February 2015 Operational Results
Virgin America today reported its preliminary operational results for February 2015. The airline's traffic (measured in revenue passenger miles) increased 3.6 percent on capacity (measured in available seat miles) that was 0.6% higher than the same month in 2014.

Ind. airport features local eateries
The Indianapolis International Airport reports that food revenue climbed to 62% of concession sales last year. Concessions at the airport include local favorites such as Harry & Izzy's and Shapiro's Delicatessen. "Our goal, and you're going to see more of this in the future, is that when you are in Indianapolis you have a sense of place, you know where you are," said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the airport.

Diamond DA42 TDI gets Continental CD-155 engine retrofit
Diamond Aircraft has clinched European certification for a third engine to power in-service versions of its DA42 TDI turbo diesel piston twin US approval for the four-cylinder114 kW (155 hp), engine is pending. The Continental Diesel CD-155 will be available as a replacement for the 500 TAE Centurion-125-powered version of the four-seat aircraft. Other retrofit options are the Austro AE300 – manufactured by Diamond's Austro Engines subsidiary – and the Lycoming IO-360, although this option is only available through Diamond’s Canadian facility in London, Ontario.
