Red Arrows pilot killed as Hawk crashes at UK show

One of the BAE Systems Hawk T1 aircraft from the Royal Air Force's Red Arrows aerobatic display team has crashed, killing its pilot, while performing a routine in the southern UK. The team was displaying at the Bournemouth Air Festival when the incident occurred on 20 August.

Crash: First Air B732 near Resolute Bay on Aug 20th 2011, impacted terrain
A First Air Boeing 737-200, registration C-GNWN performing flight 7F-6560 from Yellowknife,NT to Resolute Bay,NU (Canada) with 11 passengers and 4 crew, went missing while on approach to Resolute Bay and was found crashed. 3 passengers survived with injuries and are reported in stable condition, 8 passengers and all 4 crew perished.

Boeing 747-8F receives certification; first delivery to Cargolux expected
Boeing’s 747-8 freighter was awarded FAA and EASA certification Friday, paving the way for delivery of the first aircraft to launch customer Cargolux in early September. FAA granted Boeing an Amended Type Certificate (ATC) and an Amended Production Certificate (APC), while EASA also granted the company an ATC for the airplane, Boeing said.

Air India gets relief from oil companies
In a major act of relief for struggling Air India, state-run oil marketing companies agreed to extend the airline’s credit limit by two to three months for the purchase of jet fuel, instead of requiring daily payments.

IndiGo to launch international services on 1 September
Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo will enter the international market with the launch of seven services to Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Thailand. The carrier's first international flight will be from New Delhi to Dubai on 1 September. IndiGo will subsequently launch services from New Delhi to Bangkok on 8 September and from New Delhi to Singapore on 15 September.

Maximus Air Cargo receives first of three converted A300 freighters
Maximus Air Cargo took delivery of the first of three newly acquired Airbus A300-600RP2F aircraft, which was converted at EADS EFW. The aircraft, which was built in 2002, is the youngest passenger aircraft ever to be converted to a freighter, according to Maximus president and CEO Fathi Hilal Buhazza, who noted the aircraft gives the best product for maximizing returns and will provide reliability and cost-effectiveness.

Three plead not guilty to fake bomb charges
Three Eritrean nationals pleaded not guilty on Friday to trying to sneak a fake bomb past a screening area at Phoenix airport in what the FBI described as a possible test of security. The trio, immigrants from the Horn of Africa nation, were charged with taking a package that simulated the appearance of an explosive device through Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on August 5.

Qantas engineers to begin work stoppages
Qantas’s engineers union has announced one-hour weekday stoppages through mid-December, escalating the airline’s long-running industrial problems. The Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Assn. (ALAEA) has instructed it members to strike in different cities each week, causing knock-on delays across the network.

United Continental Holdings announced Wednesday that the first of its Boeing 787 aircraft entered the assembly phase at Boeing's Everett facility. During assembly, Boeing will join the forward, center and aft fuselage sections, the wing, horizontal stabilizer and vertical fin. In early 2012, United Airlines will be the first North American carrier to take delivery of the aircraft, the first of 50 Dreamliners for the airline.

LAN Airlines has completed the installation of winglets on its entire Boeing 767 fleet, an $80 million investment. By year end, it projects a reduction of approximately 113,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

FL Technics performed cabin interior modification and reconfiguration services on two new Boeing 737-800LRs and cabin refurbishments services on Transaero Airlines 737-300s.

Airbus’s Nantes factory delivered the first A350 XWB keel beam to the manufacturer’s Saint-Nazaire site. The 70% composite, 16.5m. x 4.3m. keel beam is a major structural component.

Guard Duty
It was a dark, stormy, night. The Marine was on his first assignment, and it was guard duty.

A General stepped out taking his dog for a walk. The nervous young Private snapped to attention, made a perfect salute, and snapped out "Sir, Good Evening, Sir!"

The General, out for some relaxation, returned the salute and said "Good evening Marine, nice night, isn't it?"

Well it wasn't a nice night, but the Private wasn't going to disagree with the General, so the he saluted again and replied "Sir, Yes Sir!"

The General continued, "You know there's something about a stormy night that I find soothing, it's really relaxing. Don't you agree?"

The Private didn't agree, but them the private was just a private, and responded "Sir, Yes Sir!"

The General, pointing at the dog, "This is a Golden Retriever, the best type of dog to train."

The Private glanced at the dog, saluted yet again and said "Sir, Yes Sir!"

The General continued "I got this dog for my wife."

The Private simply said "Good trade Sir!"
