Simulator companies waiting for MAX training rules guidance
FAA and Boeing are still developing new minimum training standards for the grounded Boeing 737 MAX, but simulator maker TRU Simulation is not anticipating mandatory simulator sessions before pilots are cleared to return to line flying, Textron president and CEO Scott Donnelly said. “It looks at this point to us like it’s probably going to be a requirement that allows them to get back in flying [after] a transition course, and then would mandate actual MAX sim training later ...

Mitsubishi, Triumph working on M100 SpaceJet design changes
Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. (MITAC) and engineering partner Triumph Group have identified design changes that should allow them to exceed weight-savings targets established to morph the MRJ70 into a fully US scope clause-compliant, 76-seat-dual-class regional jet (RJ). Triumph’s structural optimization efforts focus on three areas of the recently renamed M100 SpaceJet: the wing, aft fuselage and empennage.

Southwest pulls 737 MAXs through Nov. 2
Southwest Airlines will keep the Boeing 737 MAX off its flight schedule through Nov. 2, joining fellow US-based MAX operators American Airlines and United Airlines in making another adjustment in the wake of uncertainty over when the aircraft will return to revenue service.
“We previously revised our flight schedule by removing the MAX through Oct. 1 to offer reliability to our operation and stability for our customers,” the airline said July 18.

Ryanair’s UK pilots to vote on strike action
The British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) union plans to ballot Ryanair’s UK pilots on possible industrial action, after failing to reach an agreement on pay structures and benefits.
“We have not been able to make any progress with Ryanair at all on any of our areas of concern,” BALPA general secretary Brian Strutton said, announcing the ballot, which runs from July 24.

Ryanair COO Bellew to move to easyJet
Ryanair COO Peter Bellew, who recently resigned from the position at the Irish LCC, has joined easyJet as COO, a development that was revealed as part of the UK LCC’s third-quarter trading update.
“EasyJet has announced today that Peter Bellew will be joining easyJet as chief operating officer.

Jet2 bills disruptive passenger for more than $100,000
UK leisure airline Jet2 has banned a disruptive passenger from its flights for life and billed her for £85,000 ($105,000) in costs.
The carrier cites an incident on a 22 June flight to Dalaman which was diverted back to London Stansted. The Royal Air Force scrambled two Eurofighter Typhoons to escort the aircraft.

Uncommanded fuel transfer diverts Rouge 767-300ER
Investigators are inspecting an Air Canada Rouge Boeing 767-300ER after it experienced the uncommanded transfer of fuel between tanks.
The aircraft (C-GDUZ) had been operating from Athens to Montreal on 16 July.

ANA to begin Tokyo Narita-Chennai service on 27 October
All Nippon Airways (ANA) will launch a new Tokyo Narita-Chennai route from 27 October.
The thrice weekly flights will be operated by a Boeing 787-8s with 169 seats.

IndiGo adds Singapore and Bangkok links from Mumbai
IndiGo will start new services from Mumbai to Singapore and Bangkok from 22 August as part of its ongoing international expansion strategy.
Both routes will operate daily with Airbus A320 family aircraft.

USA officially boots Turkey from F-35 programme
The USA officially removed Turkey from the Joint Strike Fighter programme – the international effort to develop and manufacture the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter – less than a week after the country received shipments of the first components of Russia’s S-400 anti-aircraft missile battery.
The Almaz-Antey S-400 Triumf’s anti-stealth capabilities are viewed by the USA as a threat to the F-35 stealth fighter, especially if the aircraft regularly comes within the surface-to-air missile and radar system's range.
