Europe’s Pilots Censure 'Delegated Certification' of 737 Max
For the first time since the two fatal accidents involving the Boeing 737 Max 8 and the worldwide grounding of the type in March, European pilots have weighed in on the certification and pending recertification of the aircraft, describing the process as flawed.
The October 29 crash of Lion Air Flight 610 into the Java Sea 12 minutes from Jakarta and the March 10 crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 six minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa have shined a spotlight on “critical flaws that have developed in the system as regards design, certification, regulation, and adequate training,” the European Cockpit Association (ECA) said Thursday.

MAX Training Issues Expand To NGs
The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) is reporting the return to service of the Boeing 737 MAX is being pushed back because something in the investigation has prompted a review of training in the previous model. There are more than 5,000 Boeing 737NG models in use all over the world and the safety record of the type is considered good. The news clearly annoyed Boeing. “While we are working with the FAA to review all procedures, the safety of the 737 NG is not in question,” a Boeing spokesman told the Journal’s Andy Pasztor.

Turkish airports: TAV Airports results point to a future after Atatürk
When it was disclosed that Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport was to close to passenger operations and to be replaced by Istanbul Airport (of which TAV Airports would not be involved in the financing or developing) it looked not only like the end of an era for TAV, but that the firm would be severely impacted financially.
It might still be early days but financial results from 1Q2019, the quarter in which the transition was finalised, indicate that TAV has not just rolled over and given up the fight.
