UPS launches "Express Critical" service in Europe
UPS has launched a new service dubbed Express Critical in Europe to meet the needs of industries requiring rush deliveries. The service features a 24/7 contact center to plan and execute shipments for such industries as health care, aerospace and manufacturing.

JetBlue to test facial-recognition system at Boston airport
JetBlue Airways will test a facial-recognition system at Boston's Logan International Airport. Passengers flying to Aruba can have their pictures taken and compared with passport or visa photos on file with Customs and Border Protection; those with successful matches will be allowed to board without showing tickets or a passport.

IATA proposes alternative solutions to carry-on electronics ban
Additional security and screening measures at airports, including the use of sniffer dogs, are being proposed to US and UK authorities in an attempt to ward off a wider implementation of the laptop carry-on bans, IATA said Thursday.

Trump’s withdrawal from Paris is bad news for the ICAO emissions deal
I expect to hear a lot of talk over the coming days, particularly at the IATA AGM in Cancun that starts June 4, about how the Paris climate agreement and ICAO’s Carbon Offset and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) are separate international accords and the withdrawal of the US from Paris doesn’t necessarily mean the US is turning its back on the historic ICAO emissions agreement it championed during the Obama administration.

United Airlines to offer LAX-Singapore 787-9 service
United Airlines plans to introduce daily nonstop flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN), effective Oct. 27, subject to government approval. According to the Chicago-based carrier, the service will set the new distance record for any airline operating a flight to or from the US, at 8,700 miles.

Airbus, China boosts aviation, aerospace cooperation
Airbus and China have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to further strengthen their collaboration on aviation and aerospace. The MOU was signed in Berlin by Airbus COO and Commercial Aircraft president Fabrice Brégier and He Lifeng, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China.

Norwegian to begin flights from Rome to three US cities
Low-cost carrier Norwegian will launch flights from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) to three cities in the US—Los Angeles (LAX), New York Newark (EWR) and Oakland, California (OAK)—from November. Rome will be the airline’s seventh long-haul European destination served from the three US cities following Barcelona, which will launch in June; Paris; London; and the three Scandinavian capitals of Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.

Air NZ delays A320neo deliveries by a year
Air New Zealand has pushed back the delivery of its first re-engined Airbus A320 family aircraft to the second half of 2018. The Star Alliance carrier disclosed the delay in an investor day presentation. This will now see its first A320neo enter the fleet in July 2018, followed in September by the first A321neo.
