737 Max 9 first flight set for Thursday
Boeing has scheduled the first flight of the 737 Max 9 for 13 April in Renton, Washington. The aircraft is scheduled to be airborne around 10:00 for roughly 3h, Boeing says.

Airlander exits ready to fly and find customers

Alaska Airlines plans to incorporate elements of Virgin's appeal
Alaska Airlines plans to incorporate brand elements of Virgin America as the two airlines merge and the Virgin brand goes away in 2019. "Where Virgin has really pushed Alaska's thinking is how can we have a real great, innovative product that's inspired by Virgin, but it's Alaska," said Ben Minicucci, who is leading the transition.

American Airlines releases latest update to mobile app
American Airlines has launched version 5.0 of its mobile app, with new features including a "sliding action menu." The updated app has 11 terminal maps and new notifications for users when flights change.

Azul finally goes public
Brazil's Azul will list today, following several attempts at going public in recent years while facing a weak Brazil economy. The carrier has raised $571 million in a global initial public offering, and will start trading on the Sao Paulo and New York stock exchanges today under the symbols AZUL4 and AZUL respectively.

Cruz marks year at BA by going on the offensive
British Airways chief executive Alex Cruz marked his first year in charge of the Oneworld carrier by launching a marketing push for a £400 million ($500 million) investment programme under which it is upgrading its premium product offering. The investment covers a series of service enhancements on the ground and in the air, including the prospect – though there are no firm details as yet – of a new seat for BA's Club World long-haul business cabins.

Hainan Airlines to induct 96 aircraft in 2017
Hainan Airlines is expecting to induct 96 aircraft into its fleet during 2017. These comprise of 41 Boeing 737-800s, one 737-700, 21 Embraer 190s, 16 Airbus A320s, nine 787-9s, four A330-200s, three A330-300s and a single A350. The information was disclosed in a stock exchange statement.

JetBlue Airways and Alaska Airlines have been named among the Top 10 airlines worldwide by TripAdvisor.com. Southwest Airlines and Virgin America joined JetBlue and Alaska as top carriers in North America.

Jet Time chairman acquires 20% of airBaltic
Danish entrepreneur Lars Thuesen, who is 100% owner and chairman of Danish wet-lease operator Jet Time, has acquired 20% of airBaltic from German businessman Ralf Dieter Montag-Girmes. Private investor Montag-Girmes, who has a background in corporate finance, originally acquired the 20% stake in 2015 following a four-year privatization process.

LATAM Cargo names new CEO
Santiago, Chile-based LATAM Cargo has named Andrés Bianchi as new CEO, effective April 15. Bianchi, currently SVP-sales-North America, Europe and Asia, succeeds Cristián Ureta. Bianchi said, “We will focus on reinforcing LATAM Cargo’s competitiveness in order to maintain our leadership in Latin America. We plan to achieve this by continuing to support our customers closely, improving our product portfolio, and enhancing our productivity.”

Pegasus Airlines predicts cautious recovery in 2017, better 2018
Turkish low-cost carrier (LCC) Pegasus Airlines is forecasting a cautious recovery this year, but expects real growth from 2018. Pegasus experienced a difficult 2016, with the combination of geopolitical events and terrorist attacks within its home country, leading to a sharp downturn in tourism. However, the LCC still succeeded in increasing passenger numbers by more than 8% to 24.1 million, but posted a loss of TL136 million ($36.4 million).

Republic edges towards bankruptcy exit as judge settles ERJ feud
A US judge has settled a bankruptcy dispute between Republic Airways Holdings and aircraft lessor Residco, a move that brings Republic one step closer to exiting bankruptcy protection. The decision, which related to seven formerly leased Embraer ERJ-145s, also exposes the degree to which small regional jet values have declined in recent years.

United’s Munoz issues full apology for bumped passenger incident
Just hours after commending employees and saying they followed proper procedure, United Airlines’ CEO has issued a full apology for the incident in which a bumped passenger was violently dragged off an aircraft. In his apology, Oscar Munoz calls the incident “truly horrific,” apologizes to the passenger and promises a full review of United’s procedures for handling customers on oversold flights.

United Sorry “For Having To Re-accommodate” Passenger
United Airlines belatedly issued an apology over the forced removal of a passenger from one of its flights, but only “for having to re-accommodate these customers”, after the carrier had overbooked the service. United Express flight UA3411 from Chicago O'Hare to Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday descended into chaos as security officers dragged a passenger along the aisle as he was removed from the plane prior to departure.

Eurofighter delivers 500th Typhoon
Eurofighter has delivered to the Italian air force its 500th Typhoon, 14 years after it handed over the first example to the UK Royal Air Force. The aircraft will become operational at the end of April, following an acceptance flight by Eurofighter and a number of key assessments by the customer.

Canberra has signed a contract with Kongsberg Defence Systems to integrate a radio frequency (RF) seeker developed by the BAE Systems Australia into the company's Joint Strike Missle (JSM). The value of the contract is is Nkr150 million ($17.3 million), according to the Norweigian firm.
