LHT set to present new weight-saving A320 cabin monument
Lufthansa Technik and Diehl Aerosystems have developed a new cabin monument for the Airbus A320 family, and intend to unveil it at the Aircraft Interiors Expo which opens in Hamburg on 4 April. The monument, to which Lufthansa Technik gives the name "High-Density Solution", combines the aft galley and a dual lavatory in a single cabin element.

Airbus Selects Unabiz to Advance Research in Digitalization of Aircraft Maintenance Operations
Airbus has selected UnaBiz to advance research in digitalization of aircraft maintenance operations through the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. The contract sees both parties enter into a research and technology agreement in the field of Maintenance Repair and Overall (MRO).

Aegean Airlines cuts capacity for first time since Olympic Air acquisition
In 2017 the Aegean Airlines Group will make its first cut in seat capacity and fleet numbers since 2012. This follows three years of rapid expansion by the group since its Olympic Air acquisition in 2013. Olympic's all turboprop fleet focuses on the domestic market but also helps to feed Aegean's international network, particularly through its Athens hub. Cuts will focus on the domestic market.

Cebu Pacific picks AFI KLM E&M for A320 component support
Cebu Pacific has selected Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) to provide component support on its current and future Airbus A320 family fleet. The long-term contract encompasses full component support and solutions, including repairs and local pool access to maximise aircraft availability. It is also AFI KLM E&M's first agreement with Cebu Pacific, says the company.

Taban 737 suffers apparent gear failure at Ardabil
Iranian authorities are looking into a landing accident involving a Boeing 737-400 operating for Taban Airlines. The aircraft (EP-TBJ) suffered a failure of its right-hand main landing-gear at Ardabil airport, in the far north of Iran, on 27 March.

Virgin Atlantic profits shored-up by holidays division
UK operator Virgin Atlantic has slightly increased its full-year pre-tax profit to £23 million ($29 million) before exceptional items, despite a slip in revenues. Virgin Atlantic, which has a partnership with Delta Air Lines, turned in group revenues of £2.69 billion, down 3.3%, while unit revenues declined by 4.3% at constant currency.

Heathrow foresees integrating LCCs without dedicated terminal
Heathrow airport's director of expansion Derek Provan expects the hub to attract budget carriers when it opens its third runway but does not foresee a need to accommodate them in a dedicated low-cost terminal. Speaking to FlightGlobal during a Flybe route launch event at the airport today, Provan said that while Heathrow's planned sixth terminal would not be "specifically a low-cost terminal", it would be "one that meets those requirements – and we will have low-cost entrants coming into the market".

Lockheed nears $27 billion helicopter deal with Pentagon
Lockheed Martin Corp is expected to receive Pentagon approval on Thursday to begin production for 200 new heavy cargo helicopters for the U.S. Marines, a Defense Department official said on Tuesday.

F-35 program officer executive retires
Lt Gen Chris Bogdan will step down from his post as F-35 program executive officer and a US Navy admiral has been appointed to take his place. On 28 March, the Pentagon announced President Donald Trump’s nomination of Rear Adm Mathias Winter for JSF programme director. Winter currently serves as deputy programme executive officer for the Lightning II and until last fall served as chief of naval research.

Brazil's Caçador UAV clears testing hurdle
Brazil's Caçador unmanned air vehicle – an adapted version of the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Heron 1 – has received approval from the nation's defence ministry as a so-called strategic defence product, following a series of flight tests conducted in different areas of its territory. Made in advance of April's LAAD Defence & Security show in Rio de Janeiro, the development stems from a three-year relationship between IAI and its Brazilian partner, Avionics Services, which have worked together to establish in-country expertise and a UAV centre at Botucatu airfield.
