Bombardier's second CSeries flight test vehicle (FTV-2) has arrived at London and is ready to undergo validation for operation at London City airport. The aircraft, a CS100 variant with registration C-GWYD, arrived at London Stansted airport the evening of 21 March following a flight from Montreal

Boeing sets 31 March for 787-10 first flight
Boeing will conduct first flight of the 787-10 on 31 March, subject to weather and other factors. The maiden flight will be operated by a 787-10 equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines. The aircraft is also offered with General Electric GEnx powerplants.

American Airlines' new business cabin to debut for Scotland service
American Airline's seasonal New York-Edinburgh, Scotland, service will feature a new business class cabin with lie-flat seats. "The introduction of the new business class cabin is a testament to American's ongoing $3 billion investment into all aspects of the customer experience and our commitment to the Scottish market," said American's Mark Danis.

Jammed elevator cited as factor in Ameristar MD-83 accident
A jammed elevator appears to have contributed to the March runway overrun of an Ameristar Air Cargo Boeing MD-83 in Michigan, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. A linkage to the aircraft's right elevator had been bent, and the right elevator had jammed in the nose-down position, according to an investigation update released 22 March by the NSTB.

FedEx Express to begin new flight from Belgium to Memphis, Tenn
David Cunningham, president and chief executive of FedEx Express, said of the flight from Liege, Belgium: "This new flight by FedEx Express is a tangible example of the customer benefits that the acquisition of TNT will bring. By combining our strengths, particularly the FedEx Express air network and TNT's strong European road capabilities and Liege hub, we will connect even more people and possibilities."

FedEx reports $562 million net profit for fiscal 3Q
FedEx Corp. has posted a consolidated net profit of $562 million for its FY2017 third quarter covering the peak holiday period between December 2016 and February 2017, a 10.8% increase over $507 million net income in the year-ago quarter. Third-quarter revenue for the Memphis, Tennessee-based freight carrier was $15 billion, up 18.5% year-over-year (YOY) from $12.6 billion; consolidated operating expenses totaled $14 billion, up 18.5% over $11.8 billion in the company’s fiscal 3Q 2016.

Finnair suspends Miami route on aircraft, crew shortage
Oneworld carrier Finnair has been forced to suspend its Helsinki-Miami service for summer 2017 and cut Helsinki-Chicago frequencies, citing a temporary shortage of aircraft and crew. “Finnair will suspend its flights between Helsinki and Miami between May 4 and Sept. 29, and will also cancel two of its weekly frequencies on its Helsinki-Chicago route during the month of May,” Finnair said in a statement.

Nordica to launch St. Petersburg service
Estonian flag carrier Nordica will begin scheduled Tallinn-St. Petersburg Bombardier CRJ900 service on May 15. The service will be 13X-weekly and will be a codeshare flight with LOT Polish Airlines. “Renewal of the Tallinn flights is long-awaited for Pulkovo airport. The Estonian capital has always been a high-demand destination with St. Petersburg residents, both as a tourist and business route as well as a transit point for further travel,” Northern Capital Gateway CCO Evgeniy Ilyin said.

Southwest makes its largest tech investment with $800M in upgrades
Southwest Airlines' systems upgrade includes moving to electronic ticketing and incorporating tablets into workflows. Overall the airline is investing $800 million to update its reservation system and bringing on new technology to further enhance the travel experience.

SWISS converts five Bombardier CS100s to CS300s
Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is to convert five more Bombardier CSeries 100s to the larger CS300. “I can confirm that SWISS is converting its final five Bombardier CSeries aircraft orders from the CS100 to the larger CS300, to produce a CSeries fleet consisting of 10 CS100s and 20 CS300s by the end of 2018,” a SWISS spokesman confirmed

United Airlines opens innovative security checkpoint at N.J. airport
United Airlines has opened a redesigned security checkpoint at Newark Liberty International Airport's Terminal C that will further showcase the airline's investment in enhancing the customer experience. The checkpoint features 17 automated lanes and designated lanes for PreCheck and Premier Access members. "At United, we pursue relevant innovation in everything that we do, on the ground and in the air," said Greg Hart, United's executive vice president and chief operations officer.

Virgin Australia set to begin Hong Kong flights in July
Virgin Australia will begin services between Melbourne and Hong Kong in July, expanding its international footprint into Greater China for the first time. From July 5, Virgin Australia said it will operate five return services per week between the two cities, using dual-aisle Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Washington National kicks off concourse expansion
Ronald Reagan Washington National airport is kicking off construction of a new concourse and expanded secure area, as it addresses rapidly rising passenger demand at the slot-controlled airport. The $1 billion capital works include a 14-gate commuter concourse on the north side of the airport that will serve American Airlines regional operations and new security checkpoints that will allow the main hall in terminal B/C to move behind security.

​USAF calls plans to retire F-15s "pre-decisional"
The US Air Force says it’s too soon to say whether the service will swap out retired Boeing F-15C and F-15Ds for updated Lockheed Martin F-16. During a 22 House Armed Services Committee, Representative Joe Wilson asked the director of the Air National Guard whether replacing the F-15C and F-15D fleet would have a negative impact on air superiority. Lt Gen Scott Rice answered that updated F-16s could fill the gaps left by the retired F-15s.

KAI pitches T-50 for future Malaysia trainer, attack role
Korea Aerospace Industies (KAI) is promoting its T-50 advanced jet trainer, light attack aircraft to Kuala Lumpur. KAI had a large stand at this year’s show at the Langkawi Internationa Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition. Its appearance was also in support of the South Korean air force’s Black Eagles display team, which performed daily in the show’s flying display.

Malaysia receives fourth A400M transport
The Royal Malaysian Air Force has taken delivery of its fourth and final Airbus Defence & Space A400M transport aircraft, as the European firms eyes other regional opportunities. At a ceremony at the Langkawi Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (LIMA), defence minister Hishamuddin Hussein recieved a plaque from the European firm’s chief executive, Fernando Alonso.

Good read. I have transitted DCA hundreds of times and I think this is a great plan.

I gotta believe they have or will bulldoze the USAir hanger on the north side of the terminal given that is the location of the new terminal.
