US Releases List Of Airlines For Flights To Havana
The Obama administration has proposed eight airlines including United, Delta, American and Southwest to start nonstop flights from the United States to Havana, administration officials said. The tentative list of airlines also includes Alaska Air, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, and Spirit Airlines.

Embraer E2 also affected by GTF start issues
Embraer’s E190-E2, which is powered by Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan (GTF) family of engines, is experiencing some of the startup issues seen on the Airbus A320neo. “Our [PW1900G] engine does have some of issues that have been manifested on other applications, but by the time we enter service they will all have been corrected,” Embraer Commercial Aviation COO Luis Carlos Affonso said, speaking at a pre-Farnborough Airshow briefing held at Embraer’s plant in Evora, Portugal on June 28.

Swiss Avro RJ100 involved in UAV near-miss
Swiss investigators have released a preliminary report into a “serious incident” on June 19, involving a near-miss between an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or drone, and a Swiss Avro RJ100 on approach to London City Airport. The Avro RJ100, registered HB-IYT, was operating a scheduled service between Zurich and London City with 87 passengers on board.

Brexit Uncertainty Could Hit Air Traffic Demand - ACI
Political turmoil caused by Britain's vote to leave the European Union could knock demand for air transport later this year, the director general of airport association ACI Europe said. Shares in major European airlines such as easyJet, British Airways owner IAG and Ryanair have been hard hit since the Brexit vote, due to fears over travel demand and whether flying rights will be affected.

HNA Says Offer To Buy Gategroup Successful
China's HNA Group said the 63.6 percent of the voting rights and shares in gategroup it now owns are sufficient for its takeover bid for the Swiss airline catering firm to succeed. "HNA is pleased about this interim result and remains confident that more shareholders of gategroup will recognise the benefits of accepting the offer and therefore tender their shares into the offer during the additional acceptance period," the Chinese aviation and shipping conglomerate said in a statement.

Hahn Airport Sale Close To Collapse
The sale of Germany's Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to a Chinese investor appears close to collapse, the airport's local government owner said, after the buyer failed to make an initial payment last week. "Talks in Shanghai seem to point towards a collapse of the sale to SYT," said Roger Lewentz, the interior minister for the federal state of Rhineland Palatinate, which is the airport's main owner.

Lockheed gets C-130J contract modification
Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $20 million U.S. Air Force contract modification for engineering change proposals on the C-130J Super Hercules. The work will incorporate five engineering change proposals into the production baseline of the C-130J multi-year fleet.

Sukhoi completes initial flight tests on T-50
The Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi has declared a flight test milestone for the T-50, before handing over the fifth-generation fighter to the Russian government for additional testing. Sukhoi completed more than 700 flight tests, which confirmed aircraft requirements set by the Russian ministry of defense, United Aircraft Company said in a July 7 post on Facebook. The company has submitted the T-50 prototypes of the prospective aviation complex front-line aviation (PAK FA) programme for state joint tests, UAC states.

Canada examining all options for CF-18 replacement
The Canadian government is consulting industry representatives on a replacement for its CF-18 fighters, as the new Liberal administration steps away from the controversial Lockheed Martin F-35 program. Canada will kick off talks with industry and government officials at the Farnborough Airshow on 11 July, Canadian Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan says in a news release. Throughout the summer, the government also will gather information on acquisition costs, lifecycle costs, maintenance, delivery times and interoperablity with North American Aerospace Defense Command, the release states.

Plans under way for October F-35B sea-based test
Lockheed Martin’s F-35B is due to embark on a third phase of ship-based developmental testing (DT) in October, the final step before it begins qualification trials on the UK’s Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier. Two examples of the short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) variant will embark on the USS America amphibious assault ship for three weeks at the end of October. It will evaluate operations at the minimum requirement of sea state five, but is expected to go up to sea state six.

The Chinese air force has officially inducted the Xian Y-20 strategic transport. The four-engined jet was inducted during a ceremony in Chengdu, according to China’s defence ministry.
