Embraer, AVIC shutter Harbin joint venture
Embraer and AVIC will phase out their joint venture in Harbin after 13 years of operations. Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry (HEAI) rolled out its last aircraft, a Legacy 650 business jet, in March, says the Brazilian airframer in a statement.

French air traffic control walkout averted
Unions representing France’s air traffic controllers have agreed to cancel three days of strikes planned for June 3-6. European airline lobby group Airlines for Europe (A4E) had previously warned that the June 3-6 strike would be the worst of 2016 to date, causing up to 3,000 cancelations or more.

AirAsia X takes final two A330s before neo arrival
AirAsia X has taken delivery of two Airbus A330-300s, the final two aircraft it will add to its fleet, before its A330-900neos arrive in 2018. The two aircraft, registered 9M-XBA and 9M-XBB, were delivered to AirAsia X on 14 May and 28 May respectively. This brings the long-haul low-cost carrier to a fleet of 31 jets.

Air Baltic set for CSeries delivery by October
Air Baltic chief executive Martin Gauss expects the carrier’s first Bombardier CSeries aircraft on order will be delivered either in September or October. Gauss tells Flightglobal during the IATA AGM in Dublin that the carrier will be provided with a firm date in August as per the contract signed with the Canadian manufacturer.

Air Canada offers nonstop service to Australian city
Air Canada launched nonstop service from Vancouver International Airport to Brisbane, Australia, on Wednesday. The flight aboard a Boeing 787 is the only nonstop from Canada to Brisbane. "Brisbane is the third new Pacific route we have announced in the past year, after Toronto-Tokyo Haneda and Vancouver-Osaka," said Air Canada CEO Calin Rovinescu.

CityJet In Talks To Lease Out Superjets
CityJet, the first western European airline to take delivery of Russia's Superjet, expects to lease the plane to major European carriers from next summer in a move that could boost the aircraft's credibility and help it win more orders. The Superjet, Russia's first new civilian airliner since the fall of the Soviet Union, has been championed by President Vladimir Putin as leading the renaissance of civil aviation in the country.

Copa to take first 737 Max in second half of 2018
Panama's Copa Airlines is expecting its first Boeing 737 Max delivery in the second half of 2018. The Star Alliance carrier, which has orders for 61 737 Max aircraft, will take delivery of a 737 Max 9 at that time, says Copa chief executive Pedro Heilbron.

French Vessel Detects EgyptAir Recorder Signals
A French search vessel has picked up signals from one of the flight recorders of EgyptAir flight MS804, Egyptian and French investigators said. Search teams are working to recover the two flight recorders that will offer vital information about the fate of the plane that crashed en route from Paris to Cairo on May 19 killing all 66 people on board.

El Al 1Q losses widen
El Al Israel Airlines posted a 1Q 2016 net loss of $21.4 million, widened from the company’s $16 million net loss in 1Q 2015. Operating revenues were $396.5 million, down 5.6% compared to the year-ago revenues of $419.8 million. The airline said that the latest quarter’s figures were affected by the timing of Passover, which this year fell in 2Q, whereas in 2015 it fell at the start of April, which meant that holiday departures had already started by the end of March 2015.

Fiji Airways and Jetstar Group sign interline deal
Fiji flag carrier Fiji Airways and Asian low-cost carrier (LCC) group Jetstar have signed an interline agreement covering 21 Asian destinations out of Singapore's Changi Airport from Fiji’s Nadi International Airport, and to further Jetstar connecting destinations in the South Pacific. The deal covers Asian-based subsidiaries Jetstar Airways, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Pacific. All the group’s LCC carriers will offers connections into Fiji Airways’ recently launched schedule on Singapore-Nadi.

Finnair predicts swift inclusion of Iberia into Japanese JV
Finnair chief executive Pekka Vauramo expects Iberia to be given clearance “any day now” to become a part of the joint venture the Finnish carrier operates with its Oneworld partners British Airways and Japan Airlines on routes between Europe and Japan.

SAS mulls fleet-wide Wi-Fi roll out
Scandinavian carrier SAS has revealed it is considering extending its Wi-Fi services to other aircraft, having already equipped its long-haul fleet with the service. In an interview, SAS CIO Mattias Forsberg was asked about the airline’s Wi-Fi investment plans.

United debuts longest scheduled flight by US carrier
United Airlines debuted nonstop service on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner between San Francisco and Singapore on Wednesday. At 8,446 miles, the flight is the longest distance traveled by a US carrier for a scheduled flight -- and the longest scheduled flight in the world on a 787.

United unveils new Polaris business cabin and lounge
United Airlines’ new premium business product—United Polaris—was unveiled today. The product rebranding includes all aircraft interiors, digital media, inflight service and airport lounges. It will be offered Dec. 1. "This completely reconceived experience exemplifies the new spirit of United and the innovation, excitement and operational momentum across our airline," United president and CEO Oscar Munoz said.

BWI served 2M passengers in March
The Baltimore airport served more than 2 million passengers in March, an almost 9% increase on a year-over-year basis. "BWI Marshall offers affordable airfares, efficient access, and excellent customer service," said Ricky Smith, airport CEO. "We thank our passengers and our airline partners for the record growth."

USN Blue Angel Crashes At Smyrna, TN
One person has been reported dead after a U.S. Navy Blue Angels jet crashed following takeoff during a practice flight around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to a county fire dispatcher. Larry Farley, Rutherford County fire chief, said his dispatcher were told one person was killed. A U.S. Navy spokesman confirmed about 3:30 p.m. that a Blue Angel jet was involved in an incident.

USAF Thunderbird Crashes at Colorado Springs, CO
An F-16 fighter jet of the Air Force Thunderbirds flying team crashed south of Colorado Springs minutes after wrapping up an air show over the Air Force Academy graduation Thursday. The pilot of jet No. 6 safely ejected about 1:15 p.m. and is walking around unhurt, according to the Air Force Academy.
