Airbus Profits Fall In 'Challenging Year'
Airbus posted a 23 percent drop in first quarter core operating profits to EUR€501 million. Group revenues were stable at EUR€12.2 billion. "2016 turns out to be the challenging year we anticipated," chief executive Tom Enders said in reporting the results.

MTU Aero Q1 Hit By A320neo Delays
First-quarter revenue at MTU Aero Engines was hurt by delays to deliveries of the Airbus A320neo, although the company confirmed its targets for the year. MTU, which works with Pratt & Whitney on the geared turbofan engine for the A320neo, said overall group revenue was flat at EUR€1.098 billion (USD$1.25 billion).

Alitalia considers substantial stake in Air Malta
Italian flag-carrier Alitalia is considering taking a substantial stake in Air Malta. The Rome-based airline has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Maltese carrier and the Mediterranean island’s government allowing it to undertake what is describes as “a comprehensive due diligence” process on Valletta-based Air Malta.

Allegiant posts net profit of $72 million in 1Q
Las Vegas-based Allegiant Travel Co., parent of Allegiant Air, reported first-quarter net income of $72 million, up 11% from a $64.9 million profit in the year-ago period. First-quarter revenue rose 5.9% to $348.6 million, while expenses rose 2.9 % to $227.5 million, producing an operating profit of $121.1 million, up 12.1% from a $108.1 million operating profit in the 2015 first quarter.

ANA doubles full-year net profit
Japan's All Nippon Airways Holdings (ANA) has reported a net profit of ¥78.1 billion ($694 million) for the financial year through March 31, doubling its profit of ¥39.2 billion in the previous year. The Haneda-based carrier’s operating revenue rose 4.5% for the 2015/2016 year. For the 12 months through March 2017, ANA is projecting a slight increase in net profit to ¥80 billion.

China Eastern orders 20 A350-900s, 15 Boeing 787-9s
Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines has ordered 20 Airbus A350-900s and 15 Boeing 787-9s to further strengthen its expanding long-haul According to the carrier, the A350 order is valued at $5.96 billion and the 787-9 deal is worth $3.9 billion at list prices.

Delta Order Boosts Bombardier's CSeries
Bombardier has won an order for 75 CSeries passenger jets from Delta Air Lines, worth USD$5.6 billion at list price. The order marks a turning point for Bombardier as it strives to break into the fleets of major airlines globally and serve a niche market for 100-seat aircraft that larger rivals Boeing and Airbus have neglected.

Ivory Coast carrier orders two Airbus A320ceos, two A320neos
Ivory Coast national carrier, Air Côte D’Ivoire, has ordered two Airbus A320ceo and two A320neo aircraft. The African airline’s purchase marks the first order from the continent for the A320neo family. It is also the carrier’s first direct purchase from Airbus, although it already has a single A320 plus four A319s—all leased—in its fleet.

Japan Airlines forecasts further profit growth
Japan Airlines (JAL) has raised its annual net profit to ¥174.4 billion ($1.6 billion) for the year through March 31, compared to a profit of ¥149 billion in the prior year. The Japan flag carrier’s profit gain was 17.1% in the 2015/2016 financial year, with operating revenue dropping 0.6%. Another strong result is projected for the year through March 2017 with a forecast net profit of ¥192 billion.

LATAM unveils a new, single livery
LATAM Airlines Group has unveiled a new unified livery. The rebranding is the culmination of the 2012 merger of Santiago, Chile-based LAN and Brazil’s TAM Airlines under LATAM. While LATAM was the parent company of the carriers post-merger, LAN and TAM have continued to operate under their own brands. Both LAN and TAM airlines will carry the identical brand under the group.

Qantas Talking To Boeing On 777X
Qantas said it will keep its Airbus A380s in service beyond 2020 as it conducts talks with Boeing on its next-generation 777X jets. "The A380s do a great job on the markets that they operate," said Gareth Evans, head of the company's international business. Qantas currently operates a fleet of 12 A380s.

Qatar Airways Urges Airbus To Resolve A350 'Issues'
Qatar Airways increased pressure on Airbus over reliability, saying it had some "issues" with the A350. "We have some issues with the A350, which was expected… However, we feel that Airbus is losing steam in resolving these problems with the A350," chief executive Akbar Al Baker told a travel conference in Dubai.

SAS expects first A320neo in September
SAS Group is expecting to receive its first Airbus A320neo in September, the initial aircraft in a batch of 30. The company confirmed its target as a test airframe conducted its first operation to Scandinavia, landing at Stockholm Arlanda on 26 April.

JetBlue to launch NY LaGuardia-Boston flights
JetBlue Airways Corp will start six round-trip flights per weekday between New York's space-constrained LaGuardia airport and Boston in October, seeking to capture business travelers on the heavily trafficked route, the company said on Thursday. JetBlue said it would move some of its LaGuardia-Florida flights to nearby Newark Liberty airport to free up take-off slots for the new Boston flights, now that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has made it easier for airlines to grow at Newark.

Death knell for Raytheon's 'runaway' aerostat
It was a scene that captivated America. On 28 October, one of two US Army aerostats broke free of its mooring at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and proceeded on a wild journey north through Pennsylvania, dragging a 6,700ft (2km) tether over powerlines as it went. Two Lockheed Martin F-16s from New Jersey scrambled to monitor the uncontrolled balloon and even shoot it down if necessary. The Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defence System (JLENS), built by Raytheon, eventually came down on its own after 3h of excitement.

What's going on with the Japanese airlines? JAL and ANA both are doing quite well, it looks. Good luck B6 on those dailies against DL and AA(US). LATAM's livery looks alright (I like simple).
