Recaro signs 6,600-strong seat order for new Cebu Pacific A321neos
Philippine based low-cost carrier (LCC) Cebu Pacific has ordered 6,600 Recaro SL3510 seats for its new 30 Airbus A321neos, making it the first airline in the Asia-Pacific region for the new seat model. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery from next year and will use a 220-seat, single-class layout that Cebu CEO Lance Gokongwei said would help deliver an “innovative, yet economic solution for passengers.”

AirBaltic again boosts Bombardier CSeries order
Latvian flag carrier and launch operator of the Bombardier CSeries CS300 airBaltic has again increased its order for the new Canadian regional jet. It has firmed the remaining seven options from its initial order of 10 firm and 10 options placed in December 2012. It had already firmed up three of the 10 options in February 2014.

American Airlines carried more passengers in March
American Airlines posted a 3.3% increase in traffic for March on a year-over-year basis. The carrier also boosted capacity by 3.8% for the month as compared to March 2015.

EgyptAir to boost Saudi Arabian network to 200 weekly flights
EgyptAir has added more than 50 weekly flights to several Saudi Arabian destinations this summer, which will boost the number of weekly flights to 200. EgyptAir chairman and CEO Hisham El-Nahas said the routes with added frequencies are Jeddah, Riydah, Madina and Damam. The increase includes using widebody aircraft on some routes.

Horizon Air orders 30 E175s
Horizon Air, a subsidiary Alaska Air Group, has placed a firm order for 30 new Embraer E175s and also took 33 E175 options. The order, valued at $2.8 billion including the options, represents the largest aircraft purchase ever made by Horizon, which currently operates a fleet of all Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft.

JetBlue likely to expand Mint service in 2017, experts say
Experts expect JetBlue Airways to expand its Mint premium service to additional routes in 2017. JetBlue is likely to offer the service from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., among other routes.

Pakistan Shelves Airline Sale With New Law
Pakistan's parliament has adopted a law that will convert the cash-strapped national airline into a limited company but bar the government from giving up management control. The passage of the law, which blocks selling off a majority share in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), was a major setback for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

United To Agree To Revamp Board - Report
United Airlines will likely comply with two hedge funds' request and add directors to its board, including an independent chairman, according to a media report. An agreement with the funds, PAR Capital Management and Altimeter Capital Management, may come within the next week, CNBC reported, citing unidentified sources.

Brussels Airport shut down by unannounced controllers’ strike
A work action orchestrated by the guild of Belgian air traffic controllers brought flights to a halt at Brussels Airport less than 10 days after the airport restarted services following the March 22 deadly terrorist attacks. The air traffic controllers staged an unannounced sickout on April 12 to protest Belgocontrol making changes to employees’ retirement benefits.

Lebanon To Fund Beirut Airport Security Upgrade
The Lebanese government has agreed funding for new safety equipment for Beirut airport, where security gaps have caused concern among senior officials in a city that has suffered bomb attacks by Islamic State. "The cabinet agreed to secure the funds necessary for airport security apparatus," Information Minister Ramzi Greige said in a statement after a cabinet meeting.

Southwest completes first phase of LAX renovation
Southwest Airlines is in the midst of a $508 million renovation at Los Angeles International Airport. The first phase of the renovations at Terminal 1 features automated kiosks and an upgraded check-in area. "We want to tailor things to make things easy for our customers while keeping the culture of customer care right at the forefront of our operations," said Toni Wilson, station manager at LAX for Southwest. This is yet another example of how airlines are investing in airport infrastructure across the country.

USAF bomber command shopping for drone dogfighters
The US Air Force unit charged with guarding a nuclear arsenal is searching for mini-drones designed to electronically dogfight other mini-drones. A request for proposals released on 11 April by the Global Strike Command’s security forces directorate seeks a supplier for a small fleet of interceptor drones weighing less than 2.72kg (6lb) each.
