Lockheed Martin Completes Acquisition of Sikorsky Aircraft
Lockheed Martin has closed its acquisition of Sikorsky Aircraft, a world leader in military and commercial rotary-wing aircraft. Aligned under the Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training (MST) business segment, Sikorsky Aircraft is now known as Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company. “Today we are proud to welcome the Sikorsky team to Lockheed Martin,” said Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin chairman, president and CEO. “Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky share a legacy of innovation and performance that has shaped the history of aviation for more than a century. Together, we are even better positioned to provide the best value for our customers, employees and shareholders.”

Airlines

airBaltic takes lead on Bombardier CS300
Latvian national carrier airBaltic will be the launch customer for the CS300 version of Bombardier’s CSeries, the manufacturer announced at the Dubai Air Show Nov. 8. The airline’s CEO, Martin Gauss, has long been an enthusiast for the delayed Canadian narrowbody as a replacement for its Boeing 737-300s and -500s.

Air Canada posted higher traffic for Oct.
Air Canada reported a 8.9% increase in total system traffic for October on a year-over-year basis.

Emirates Signs USD$16 Bln Engine Deal With GE
Emirates has signed a USD$16 billion service contract with GE's aviation unit for engines powering the airline's 777X fleet. The contract will includes maintenance, repair and overhaul of the GE9X engines that will power the airline's fleet of 150 Boeing 777X aircraft over a period of 12 years, it said in a statement.

Emirates to show off first high-density A380
Middle Eastern operator Emirates is set to show off the first of its Airbus A380s to be fitted in a higher-density 615-seat configuration. The airline says it will unveil the aircraft during the Dubai air show, following a delivery which brings its fleet to 68 of the double-deck type.

Emirates weighs A350 vs 787
Emirates wants more airline operational data for the Airbus A350 before making a decision about an order for the type, or for more Boeing 787s, the airline’s president Tim Clark said at the Dubai Air Show. The airline isn’t announcing any orders at the show because its medium-twin campaign has not been finalized and Airbus has not launched an A380neo, which Clark has been pushing for.

Etihad takes two more 777Fs
Etihad Airways has exercised two options for Boeing 777F freighters, the carrier announced at the Dubai Air Show. The decision to exercise the options, which were part of Etihad Airways’ $67 billion order for 199 aircraft at the 2013 Dubai show, was unveiled on the opening day of this year’s event.

IAG Firms Up Airbus A330, A320neo Orders
IAG has firmed up orders for 19 additional Airbus aircraft - 2 A330-200s, 2 A330-300s and 15 A320neos. In a statement coinciding with the Dubai Air Show, Airbus said the agreement with IAG and its airlines took their cumulative Airbus orders to a total of nearly 470 aircraft.

India's Jet emerges as customer for up to 75 Max 8s
India's Jet Airways has been identified as the customer behind a previously unattributed order for Boeing 737 Max 8s. Boeing says the deal with Jet, announced at the Dubai air show, comprises conversions of 25 Next-Generation 737s to the re-engined variant plus options and purchase rights spanning an additional 50 Max 8s.

Turkish Airlines posts 9-month net profit of $877 million
Turkish Airlines reported a nine-month 2015 consolidated net profit of $877 million, up 21% from $685 million in the year-ago period. Nine-month consolidated revenues decreased 6% to $8.54 billion; operating profit for the period was up 29% to $1.27 billion.

United to start contract talks early with machinists union
United Continental Holdings plans to begin contract negotiations early with its machinists union. "This is one of several positive steps we've taken recently to demonstrate our firm commitment to our people," said Mike Bonds, executive vice president of human resources and labor relations for United.

Changi’s September passenger numbers down 11% from August
Singapore Changi International Airport saw an 11% drop in passenger movements from 4.95 million in August to 4.42 million passengers in September 2015. This was a 3.9% rise in monthly numbers over September 2014, but was significantly lower than the 6.6% year-on-year growth registered in August 2015. Likewise, year-on-year aircraft movements grew by 5.3% to 28,460 year-on-year, but slipped from 29,610 recorded in August 2015.

Military

An-178 makes Middle East debut
Antonov’s debut Dubai showing of the in-development An-178 transport attracted a crowd on 9 November, as company president Mykhaylo Gvozdov got onboard the Ukrainian company’s newest product. First flown in May 2015 and also exhibited at the Paris air show in June, development aircraft UR-EXP has so far accumulated approximately 90 hours in the air during around 30 flights, the company says.

USAF QF-4s set for 2017 out of service date
The US Air Force expects to cease carrying out test support using its 22-strong fleet of BAE Systems QF-4 Phantom aerial targets in January 2017, followed by a complete out of service date in the middle of the same year. The target aircraft – based at Holloman AFB in New Mexico – is being replaced by the Boeing QF-16, the first of which was delivered to Tyndall AFB in Florida in March. Tyndall ceased operating the QF-4 in May 2015, making the 53rd Wing's Detachment 1 82 Aerial Targets Sqn based at Holloman – which is in close proximity to White Sands Missile Range – the last remaining operator.
