Currency Drop Triggers Embraer Loss
Embraer posted a third-quarter net loss of USD$110 million as the weaker Brazilian currency improved long-term profitability but drove up tax obligations. Excluding the one-time tax impact of Brazil's softening currency, Embraer reported a profit of USD$72 million. Revenue edged up 4 percent from a year earlier due to discounts on some executive jets and a smaller contribution from domestic military revenues denominated in Brazilian reais.

Vote Moves ExIm Bank Closer To Revival
The dormant US Export-Import bank inched a step closer to revival on Monday as Republicans and Democrats approved a rarely successful move to force a vote to renew the trade lender's charter. The move effectively bypasses House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, who has fought to close ExIm and has blocked legislation to revive it.

Air Europa revamps livery before 787 arrival
Spanish carrier Air Europa has unveiled a new colour scheme for its fleet ahead of delivery of its own Boeing 787s. The airline has already painted an Embraer 195 (EC-KRJ) in the revised livery, which comprises a simple blue-and-white design with a revised version of its logo – a lower-case ‘AE’ – on the fin.

Air New Zealand increases capacity on popular YVR-AKL route
Air New Zealand is adding an additional return service on its Vancouver - Auckland route ahead of the upcoming peak northern summer period between April 2 and May 7, 2016. The popularity of the airline's service between Auckland and Vancouver will see the airline step up frequency next year from three to four return services per week.

Delta to depart A4A; ATC policy differences cited
Delta Air Lines will leave Airlines for America (A4A), the group that lobbies on behalf of the US airline industry, in 2016. The move by the world’s and US’s second largest airline in terms of revenue, which will take effect April 26, 2016, is a blow to A4A’s mission of presenting a united front of US carriers as it lobbies Congress and the White House on major industry issues.

Germany temporarily approves Etihad-Air Berlin codeshares
Germany's transport ministry has granted temporary approval for 31 disputed codeshares between Air Berlin and shareholder Etihad Airways, but is demanding that the two carriers adapt their co-operation. Out of 83 codeshares Etihad applied to conduct with Air Berlin as part of the winter 2015/2016 schedule, Germany's federal ministry of transport and digital infrastructure had deemed 31 not be covered by a bilateral with the UAE.

Hong Kong Airlines adds Kumamoto, Japan to its network
Commencing on 14 December, Hong Kong Airlines will be the first and only carrier providing direct link between Hong Kong and Kumamoto, Japan. The new route will be operated by an all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft. Hong Kong Airlines will launch twice-weekly flight service to Kumamoto, running on every Monday and Friday, and further strengthen the airline's network in Japan.

Indonesia carriers cancel thousands of flights due to fires
Indonesia’s regional carrier Kalstar Aviation has canceled more than 1,000 flights in the last two months due to poor visibility resulting from uncontrolled rainforest and peatland fires. The carrier, based in one of the worst-hit burning areas in Kalimantan, said the flight cancellations has impacted the travel plans of some 120,000 passengers to date this year and cost the carrier billions of rupiah in lost revenue.

Interjet SSJ100 hits airbridge at Mexico City
An Interjet Sukhoi Superjet 100 hit an airbridge at Mexico City International airport on 25 October while being towed. Photos posted on Twitter show damage to the aircraft's nose after it was wedged under an airbridge.

JetBlue Airways Doubles Q3 Profit
JetBlue Airways' third-quarter profit more than doubled from a year earlier, as cheap fuel and revenue from checked bag fees and first-class seats added to its bottom line. The US budget carrier earned USD$198 million in the third quarter, up from USD$79 million a year ago. JetBlue said it will make less money per mile in October than it did a year ago. The airline has managed to avoid steep declines in unit revenue because it has few flights to Dallas and Chicago, where capacity has outpaced demand, unlike American Airlines and Spirit.

Lufthansa Hopes To Advance Air China JV Deal
Lufthansa aims to make progress on a joint venture deal with Air China, in the making for more than a year, during Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to China this week. Karl Ulrich Garnadt, head of the German airline's passenger business, will accompany Merkel on the trip, which will include meetings with Premier Li Keqiang and President Xi Jinping, a Lufthansa spokesman said.

Republic Airways’ Pilots Ratify Three-Year Contract
Republic Airways Holdings Inc., announced that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters’ (IBT) Local 357, which represent the approximately 2,100 pilots of Republic, have voted by a margin of 76% to ratify a new three-year contract, with approximately 85% of the eligible pilots voting. “Today’s ratification by the IBT represents a significant positive step forward for our pilots and our airline,” said Matt Koscal, Republic vice president of human resources

SkyWest, Inc. Announces Third Quarter 2015 Results
SkyWest, Inc., today reported financial and operating results for the quarter ended September 30, 2015.
SkyWest generated $36 million of net income for Q3 2015, or $0.71 per diluted share. Excluding special items, SkyWest's net income for Q3 2014 was approximately $26 million, or $0.50 per diluted share.

SunExpress to launch first Eurowings long-haul flight Nov. 2
SunExpress, a joint venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, will launch its first Airbus A330-200 long-haul flight for Eurowings from Cologne to Varadero, Cuba, on Nov. 2. The aircraft are part of a wet-lease contract. In addition, SunExpress will operate 567 weekly flights from 119 airports scheduled during summer 2016, up 9% year-over-year.

Flight Headlines Huge Day of New Air Service at MIA

Miami International Airport welcomed an impressive mix of new carriers, new routes and new superjumbo aircraft yesterday (Sunday, October 25), led by Four-Star carrier Turkish Airlines' inaugural Istanbul-Miami flight. The lineup also featured longtime MIA airline partner British Airways' introduction of daily Miami-London Heathrow service aboard the massive Airbus A380 superjumbo, and the start of daily Las Vegas service by ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines. Additionally on October 25, Lufthansa introduced expanded seasonal to Munich, SWISS and Virgin Atlantic launched additional daily flights and Air France kicked off seasonal Airbus A380 service.

WestJet ranked third-best brand in Canada
Canadian Business magazine has ranked WestJet third among the top 25 brands in the country, based on a national survey of Canadians. This is the fourth consecutive year the airline has finished in the top three. "We are very proud to be voted one of Canada's top brands once again," said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Commercial.

KC-390 resumes flight tests as defence unit rebaselines
Embraer has flown the KC-390 again for the first time in eight months as the company’s Defence and Security business adapts to a devalued Brazilian currency and a slower development schedule for the new tanker-transport. The flight on 26 October at Embraer’s test centre in Gaviao Pexioto, Brazil, ends an eight-month hiatus caused by a fiscal crisis in Brasilia. As the Real currency has devalued by 50% since the beginning of the year, the government had slowed payments to Embraer on a host of projects, but none bigger than the KC-390.

The US Air Force has chosen Northrop Grumman to build America’s next stealth bomber in a landmark decision announced at the Pentagon today. Northrop’s victory in the $55 billion Long Range Strike Bomber (LRS-B) competition has been described as “stunning upset” against the cashed-up team of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, and secures the B-2 creator’s place as a top-tier military aircraft manufacturer for decades to come.

Sikorsky’s CH-53K lifts off after troubled start
Sikorsky’s CH-53K King Stallion has finally reached “day one” of its 2,000h flight test program after a maiden 30min flight this morning at the company’s development flight centre in West Palm Beach, Florida. The flight comes about one year late, and nine years after Sikorsky received the system design and development contract from the Marine Corps to produce a replacement for the Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion.
