Crashed IrAn-140 was above weight limit: inquiry
Iranian investigators have indicated that the HESA IrAn-140 involved in the take-off crash in Tehran last year was operating above its weight limit. The Civil Aviation Organisation states that a “failure to observe” load-calculation procedures had resulted in the aircraft, a licence-built Antonov An-140, being overweight.

Air Canada reports higher Q2 profit, lower Q2 yield
Air Canada posted a profit of $239.6 million for the second quarter, a 33% increase when compared to the same quarter of last year. The carrier's yield fell 5% in the quarter as Air Canada boosted capacity by 9..3%.

JetBlue traffic, PRASM rose for July
JetBlue Airways reported an 8.9% increase in traffic for July on a year-over-year basis. Passenger revenue per available seat mile also rose by around 1% for the month.

Singapore Airlines Scraps Jeju Air Talks
Singapore Airlines has scrapped talks with South Korea's Jeju Air on buying a stake in the budget airline. Singapore Airlines did not give a reason for its decision.

TUI Sees Robust Summer Trading Despite Tunisia Attack
Strong summer travel demand offset the impact of the Tunisian beach massacre for TUI which said annual profit would come in at the upper end of its forecast range. TUI said summer trading had been robust and it now expected underlying core earnings (EBITA) to rise by between 12.5 and 15 percent in the current financial year, against a previous forecast for between 10 and 15 percent.

United updates app to help passengers navigate airports
United Airlines is updating its mobile app for iOS with indoor mapping technology to assist passengers navigating through seven U.S. airports. "This is a very specific technology that talks to a real need of the customer," said Shannon Kelly, director of e-commerce planning and delivery at United.

Airlines adding amenities for business travelers at LAX
Airlines are courting business travelers at Los Angeles International Airport, which is the second-largest airport in the U.S. in terms of passengers. Airlines have added amenities and will revamp terminals to compete for business travelers flying the most lucrative route in the country from LAX to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.

Croatia receives overhauled MiG-21s after long delays
Croatia's air force has received all its long-delayed refurbished Mikoyan MiG-21bis-D fighters and UMD-model trainers from the Ukrainian Ukrspecexport organisation. The delivery of seven overhauled aircraft plus five additional single-seat examples under the €13.9 million ($19.3 million) contract enables the country to field one fully operational fighter squadron, and will bridge the gap until a new type is acquired.

US F-16s launch against ISIS from Turkey
The US Air Force is striking militant groups in Iraq and Syria with renewed vigour just days after six Lockheed Martin F-16s arrived at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey to support Operation Inherent Resolve. The air force says the F-16s are now conducting operational missions across the border in into areas occupied by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker of the 22nd Expeditionary Air Refuelling Squadron arrived at the base earlier this week to deliver more supplies.

F-35 programme receives first Rockwell Collins Gen 3 helmet
The crown jewel in the Lockheed Martin F-35 weapon system, the “Gen 3” F-35 Helmet Mounted Display System, has been delivered after more than a decade of development and will start being cut into the production line next year. Produced by Rockwell Collins and Elbit Systems’ Vision Systems joint venture, the Gen 3 helmet has had a troubled past and is almost as controversial as the fifth-generation fighter aircraft itself, but will soon be ready for service with the first unit delivered this week.

US Navy considers reduced annual F-35C buy
The US Navy believes budget pressures and competing priorities could drive it to purchase fewer Lockheed Martin F-35Cs per year in the 2020s, and a worst-case scenario could see it procure as few as 12 aircraft per year, or one squadron. Naval Air Forces commander Vice Adm Mike Shoemaker says the current plan is to purchase around 20 carrier variants per year in the 2020s, but depending on the resources available, annual output could fall to anywhere between 12 and 20 aircraft.

Taiwan's F-16s to carry Lockheed Sniper Pod
Lockheed Martin has signed a contract to equip Taiwan’s F-16s with its Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod and the first two units are just about ready to deliver from the production site in Orlando, Florida. A company spokeswoman tells Flightglobal that two units will be delivered in the fourth quarter for integration by the US Air Force, which is running Taiwan’s F-16 upgrade programme through the American foreign military sales process.

Ariane 6 gets finance boost to 2016 design review
Europe’s bid to retain independent, cost-competitive access to space in a launch market disrupted by US start-up SpaceX has been given solid financial momentum with formal contracts to develop the heavyweight Ariane 6 and light Vega C rockets. The €2.4 billion ($2.7 billion) contract for the two variants of the modular Ariane 6, to fly from 2020 with full operations from 2023, includes some €680 million to reach a preliminary design review in mid-2016. Prime contractor Airbus Safran Launchers says the total cost of developing the launcher, including solid fuel boosters to be shared with Vega C and some €400 million in industrial investment, will be about €3 billion.
