French broaden Reunion search for possible MH370 debris
French authorities are to carry out a broader search operation in the vicinity of Reunion following the discovery of debris strongly suspected to have originated from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. The ministry of defence says that an operation co-ordinated by FAZSOI, the armed forces of the southern Indian Ocean, is due to begin on 7 August. It will involve overflights by a CASA aircraft, the ministry adds, part of a deployment of additional air and sea resources to “detect the possible presence of new debris”.

United Flight Makes Emergency Return To London
A United Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles was forced to return to London's Heathrow Airport on Friday after declaring a full emergency. "The flight returned due to a possible electrical issue with a seat onboard the aircraft," a United Airlines spokeswoman said. "It landed safely."

New Berlin Airport Warns Of More Delays
The insolvency of Dutch engineering group Royal Imtech's German arm could delay further the completion of Berlin's new airport, the airport's operator warned. "It is clear to us that the insolvency has an impact on our planning, which sees construction completed in March 2016," the airport's chief Karsten Muehlenfeld said in a statement.

Midway is set to receive major overhaul
"Efficiency" is the goal of a newly announced remodeling effort at Chicago's Midway International Airport. The project, which is being done with any tax increases on passengers, will include an overhauled security checkpoint area as well as expanded food offerings and 1,400 additional parking spaces.

Ontario, Calif., to take control of ONT
Los Angeles will pass control of LA/Ontario International Airport to Ontario, Calif., in exchange for $250 million in compensation and debt relief. The Ontario International Airport Authority is also obligated by the deal to take steps towards preserving airport jobs.

Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop make JSTARS cut
The US Air Force has picked Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman to carry its infant Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System Recapitalization programme forward, sidelining an unnamed fourth bidder. The three contracts announced 7 August are worth $10 million to $11.5 million each for a one-year “pre-engineering and manufacturing development effort” aimed at maturing and testing competing designs ahead of a downselect in late 2017.
