Airbus selling A330 on early availability rather than price
Airbus is taking advantage of its ability to offer early delivery slots to secure A330 deals as it transitions to the re-engined A330neo in 2017, but is not having to offer significant discounts to secure orders. “With all the capabilities of today’s A330-300 at 242t (MTOW) and the economics it can give people, we’ve had many of our customers say there’s no more efficient more economic long-haul seat in the air today,” says Christopher Buckley, Airbus’s executive vice-president for Europe, Africa, Asia and Pacific.

MRJ starts low-speed taxi tests
Mitsubishi Aircraft’s MRJ regional jet is undergoing low-speed taxi trials as the Japanese airframer edges towards the aircraft’s maiden flight. The manufacturer released a picture of aircraft 10001, its first flight test jet, undergoing low-speed taxi tests at the Nagoya airport.

American Airlines CEO addresses capacity growth
American Airlines CEO Doug Parker addressed questions about airline industry growth on Sunday. He said the key question is whether growth in the industry was a "one time catch-up," or if airlines are expanding, "just because times are good." American Airlines has vowed to hold down expansion in order to maximize profit margins.

Etihad In Air France-KLM Codeshare Talks
Etihad Airways has reached a deal to deepen its relationship with Air France-KLM and separately has agreed to sell its stake in Aer Lingus, Etihad's chief executive James Hogan said. Etihad and Air France-KLM will share codes on more flights this year, opening more European cities to the Abu Dhabi-based airline's customers, Hogan said on the sidelines of the IATA annual meeting. The airlines have yet to agree final terms of the deal.

Hawaiian capacity to stay flat ahead of A321neo arrival
Hawaiian Airlines is maintaining its plan of roughly flat capacity until it takes delivery of its first Airbus A321neo in 2017, says chief executive Mark Dunkerley. This is driven by the fact that the Honolulu-based carrier will have a relatively flat fleet count during the period as it takes delivery of its final Airbus A330-200 later this year to replace outgoing Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

Lufthansa CEO Sees Good May Traffic
The positive trend in Lufthansa's April traffic continued in May with new business class and premium economy seats attracting passengers, chief executive Carsten Spohr said. Lufthansa said last month its April passenger numbers rose 6.7 percent to 9.14 million, though the load factor dropped 1.4 percentage points to 78.1 percent. It is due to publish May traffic figures on Wednesday.

United Express CRJ700 skids off Buffalo runway
A United Express Bombardier CRJ700 operated by Mesa Airlines skidded off the runway and onto grass at Buffalo Niagara International airport late on 7 June, United confirms. The pilot reportedly told passengers that the aircraft had been blown off the runway by a strong gust of wind. The aircraft "landed safety in Buffalo but extended beyond the runway upon arrival," United tells Flightglobal. "Passengers exited the aircraft and onto buses for transportation into the terminal."

United flying 3 round trip flights from Evansville, Ind., to Chicago daily
Citing a need for business travelers, United has launched three daily flights between Evansville Regional Airport in Indiana, and Chicago. The first flights launched at capacity this past Thursday.

F-35 accident investigation board posts findings
An accident investigation board has pegged the cost of last year’s “catastrophic engine failure” of an A-model Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter at $50 million. The incident at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida on June 23, 2014, temporarily grounded the fleet – setting back the development program’s flight test campaign by several months and thwarting the Marine Corps’ planned debut of the F-35B at the Farnborough International Airshow.
