Irish govt accepts IAG bid for Aer Lingus stake
The Irish government has agreed to sell its 25.1% stake in Aer Lingus to IAG for €1.4 billion ($1.52 billion), after accepting the airline group's third offer for the share in the Irish carrier. The deal is now subject to approvals by the Irish legislature's lower house as well as Aer Lingus shareholders, says IAG.

American Airlines passengers earn miles by donating to military charities
American Airlines often comes out with promotions around Veterans’ Day to donate through them to certain military charities for an increased amount of miles. A normal charity dollar earns 10 miles, but through 10 July, you can get 15 per $.

Delta Air Lines ramps up Seattle competition with new routes
Delta Air Lines Inc on Tuesday announced new flights from Seattle to five destinations in its latest move to strip market share from Alaska Air Group Inc , which is based in that city. Atlanta-based Delta has aggressively added flights from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in recent months as it seeks to feed more traffic there and develop it as a gateway to Asia. Investors worry that overlaps with the airport's larger operator Alaska Airlines could lead to lower ticket prices and revenue from Seattle.

In handing out lucrative public procurement contracts, Qatar is likely to favour countries whose airports grant take-off and landing slots to state-owned Qatar Airways, its chief executive said on Tuesday. The remarks by Akbar al-Baker, in Amsterdam to launch a new six-times-a-week route, may fan the protests of western carriers that Gulf competitors have unfair advantages because of their close relationships to their governments.

Pilot Strike At SAS Continues
A strike by some pilots at Scandinavian airline SAS continued for a sixth day on Tuesday and may escalate, a spokesman for the striking staff said. The industrial action so far included only 17 pilots but around 300 more, or 20 percent of the airline's total, could go on strike unless the dispute over work hours and other conditions is resolved.

Southwest unveils updated Triple Crown One aircraft
Southwest is showing off its new Triple Crown One aircraft the day after it emerged from the painting hangar. Originally commissioned in '97 to commemorate Southwest's performance in on-time departures, baggage handling and customer service. The paint job features a heart medal and Southwest's modern tail branding.

Southwest Airlines ensures woman gets home to see son in coma
Southwest Airlines flew one of its passengers home to Denver, Colo., for free and even provided lunch after she learned during a recent trip that her son was in a coma. "The care that I was shown is second to none. We have always liked Southwest Airlines and now we can't say enough good things about them," said Peggy Uhle, whose son is now recovering.

Volaris Announces Flights to Costa Rica
Volaris, the ultra low cost Mexican airline with the most extensive route network servicing Mexico and the US, announced today their incursion into the Costa Rica market with the launch of two new flights from Cancun, Quintana Roo and Guadalajara, Jalisco to Costa Rica's capital city, San Jose, starting on September 10 with flights two times per week.

Los Angeles International Airport is expecting traffic to be up 6.7% this summer over last year. The record-breaking numbers are being credited to more available seats and a strong U.S. dollar.

Wichita Eisenhower National Airport to open new terminal
A new terminal at Wichita Eisenhower National Airport will open June 3. City and airport officials announced Thursday that the first airplane will leave from the new $160 million terminal at 5 a.m. June 3, and the first airplane is scheduled to arrive about 9:45 a.m. that day. The old terminal will be closed after the final flight arrives about midnight June 2.
