ANA presses Boeing on 787 delay The repeated delays affecting Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner are “a great disappointment”, said its first customer, All Nippon Airways, in a fresh sign of pressure on the maker of the world’s most advanced long-haul passenger jet. Japan’s second-biggest airline by revenues is still unclear about the precise cause of a fire on a 787 test flight earlier this month, and was pressing Boeing to say whether it would result in further delays to the jet, said Shinichiro Ito, ANA chief executive. EADS CFO: A400M to turn profit in long term EADS is confident it can sell up to 500 of its Airbus A400M military transporters and that the project will be profitable, the aircraft maker's finance chief told a German newspaper. "We see a broad global market of 400 to 500 aircraft with good chances for this aircraft to turn profits in the long term," CFO Hans-Peter Ring was quoted as saying on Saturday in an advance copy of an interview to be published in Sunday paper Euro am Sonntag. Avianova slashes A320 seat layout as Russian taxes bite Russian budget carrier Avianova is pulling more than 20 seats out of the cabins of its Airbus A320s as a result of higher costs emerging from new customs regulations for imported aircraft. The airline says it is being "forced" to make the change, which will reduce capacity in the jets by 12%, because single-class layouts in the type are subject to heavy taxes. Link
Australia tightens requirements for airport redevelopment Australia's parliament has passed a law requiring airport owners and operators to have broader consultation with the state and local communities when planning development works. Operators, including those at major hubs in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, must make their plans recognizing that "airports exist primarily for aviation purposes, there to serve the national economy and the flying public," says the transport ministry. AVIATION QUOTE
Our descendants will certainly attempt journeys to other members of the solar system. . . . By 2030 the first preparations for the first attempt to reach Mars may perhaps be under consideration. The hardy individuals who form the personnel of the expedition will be sent forth in a machine propelled like a rocket. — Lord Birkenhead, 1930

No Frills Airline
You'll Know It's a No-Frills Airline If: 1. They don't sell tickets, they sell chances. 2. All the insurance machines in the terminal are sold out. 3. Before the flight, the passengers get together and elect a pilot. 4. If you kiss the wing for luck before boarding, it kisses you back. 5. You cannot board the plane unless you have the exact change. 6. Before you took off, the stewardess tells you to fasten your Velcro. 7. The Captain asks all the passengers to chip in a little for gas. 8. When they pull the steps away, the plane starts rocking. 9. The Captain yells at the ground crew to get the cows off the runway. 10. You ask the Captain how often their planes crash and he sez, "Just once." 11. No movie. Don't need one. 12. Your life keeps flashing before your eyes. 13. You see a man with a gun, but he's demanding to be let off the plane. 14. All the planes have both a bathroom and a chapel.
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen
