OK. I'm all for remembering the troops, but Labor Day isn't about the troops. The only thing that Labor Day has to do with the military is that soldiers attacked and killed the strikers during the Pullman Strike of 1894, for which Labor Day was designated. Just sayin'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pullman_Strike

In 1894, in an effort to conciliate organized labor after the strike, President Grover Cleveland and Congress designated Labor Day as a federal holiday. Legislation for the holiday was pushed through Congress six days after the strike ended. Samuel Gompers, who had sided with the federal government in its effort to end the strike by the American Railway Union, spoke out in favor of the holiday.

It was probably just some idiot out of millions of idiots posting the wrong thing.

I would much rather celebrate Einstein day, Dostoevsky day, electricity day, or Steak and BJ day rather than Labor day.

At times I've had jobs where I've gotten the day off, for the last 6 years I haven't. I honestly don't care unless I get it off.

I personally, believe that Labor day has no importance anymore. I understand its importance at the turn of the 19th century and during the industrial revolution, but Unions mean nothing more to me in the modern age other than some cranky flight US flight attendants. I know there are always the government workers who have worked the same job for 30 years and scream that I wouldn't have vacation time, or maximum work hours per week without unions and labor rights, blah blah blah. I have never had a Union job, and I have had plenty of bad ones. When I have had a job so bad, I found a better one. Yes, I am lucky to live in modern times. Lets move on.
