Tears in the Darkness: The Story of the Bataan Death March and its Aftermath
Michael and Elizabeth Norman
I saw this book recommended in a internet sports column, boy am I glad I picked it up. 1942, the worst defeat in American military history, the authors tell the story through the eyes of a soldier from Montana and some front line Japanese soldiers. The writing is so good, I felt that I was transported back in time and suffered along with the Americans and was able to understand what was going on in the heads of the Japanese.
You do not have to be a fan of military/history novels to enjoy it. If you have the slightest interest in the human race and stories of survival, you just will be spellbound.
