Not the same distance, but the same "silliness".
I was lecturing at a conference in San Luis Obispo,
CA in 1999 . . . I had been there M-T-W and planned to stay thru Thu and leave Fri morning for
SAN where I was to attend another conference. Boss called on Thursday afternoon, said you have to be back in
DC tomorrow morning for an 8am meeting

I asked if we could
VTC the thing, but he said nope, need to have you here Eyes On. Well, shit, I said. I have to be in
SAN Friday night. He said, you better start flying then.
I called
US Airways, got booked out of
SFO that evening, took a
UA puddle jumper from San Luis Obispo to
SFO, flew to Baltimore (only flight I could get to the
DC area that night), grabbed a rental car at
BWI (my Personal Vehicle was in my parking spot at the Pentagon), drove to the blasted meeting - got stopped by
DCPD for making a U-Turn at Anacostia too*** - went on to the meeting, for 35 minutes. Managed a quick trip over to my apartment in Crystal City to
SSSC, then back to
BWI to turn in the car and fly to
SAN. Got to
SAN about 1900 that night.
Cost the gov't a bunch of $$ for that little foray back to
DC though.
*** I played ignorant. I knew there was a
NO U-Turn Sign there, as I had previously ignored same a hundred times. There is
NO off ramp from I-395 onto the I-95(South) in Anacostia, so everyone gets off North bound and does a U-Turn. Anyone who's been thru there knows what I'm talking about. I played ignorant, told the cop I was in a rental, and not from the area. produced my Alaska Operator's License, and he said "
WOW, you really
AREN'T from here are you". I got a stern warning and off I went.
LET'S GO BRANDON!!!!
