Pep, I loved it. My wife isn't a "Trekkie" in the hard-core sense, but she's into Star Trek far more than I was. And she loved it. I don't thnk he ruined the legend of Star Trek. The original series, TNG, DS9, Voyager, can all stand on their own.

I think he invented a new legend, based on an alternate reality. That is as Trek as anything can get, Pep! We've seen alternate realities from to time on Star Trek. "Yesterday's Enterprise" comes to mind. This is the ultimate "what if" in Star Trek-what if thngs had run on a different course? That's how this can be explained. It's simply an alternate universe, and done very well.

And do you think Leonard Nimoy would have even gone near this if he didn't think it was true to The Final Frontier? I thnk it was outstanding. It is, as I said, "Star Trek: The Alternate Reality."

I'm sure he is, but he also has enough $$ that it probably didn't factor in too much. He would have walked if he didn't like it, I'm convinced of that.

There are several books you can read, particularly "The Making of Star Trek", preferably a VERY early version . . . I can bring my 1st edition copy (Sept 1966) with me . . . but you'd have to put down a deposit on it . . .

Seriously. Roddenberry had a very unique and amazing vision - for the 1960s - when he developed Trek. He and DC Fontana and Probert and a few others were instrumental in shaping the Trek way of life. Of course, there are communists in the mix . . . please refer to the Romulans and moreso the Klingons . . . .definitely communist-like and done purposely that way.

Finally got around to seeing the new Star Trek movie today. The female companion I went with say I blinked a couple of times and never moved the whole time. What a great movie.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a new era for a new type of fan. The previous generation (myself included) can have their old Trek, but I can seriously live with a new Trek if it's as good as this movie was. I can make room in my brain to deal with, acknowledge, and accept two canon.

My father (definite old time Trek) said the movie wasn't bad, but wasn't exactly Trek. He said if you can get past the NCC-1701 not exactly being the NCC-1701, you'll probably be...well...not irritated, but...ok. He equated it to being like when the Motion Picture came out. NCC-1701 was there, but it wasn't exactly the NCC-1701.

I don't know. I'll wait until the DVD comes out. $10 per person for this? I don't think so.

The only way this movie could've been anything good for the long run would be if Spock (along w/his younger self and crew) found a way to go back to when Nero first arrived in the past and destroyed Nero's ship and preserve the timeline/canon.
