Deadliest Catch

Everything that would not belong anywhere else.

Anyone else keeping up with it? My brother asked me to make a DVD of the first episode of the season for him, and now I'm hooked. If for no other reason, it helps me know there are still people out there who will do whatever it takes to survive when things get tough.

The last two weeks have had "After The Catch" airing after the weekly episode of "Deadliest Catch". I know Mike Rowe was the host for those in other seasons but the "Cash Cab" guy makes me violently ill for some reason.

I've been watching it for several years now. The 'After the Catch' stuff is great, but yeah...I have no idea why Mike Rowe isn't hosting it this year. The Cab Guy is merely ok, but...it just doesn't work. Maybe Rowe and the captains got into it or something...

Hate cash cab for the same reason as you.

I do like the Deadliest Catch. If I were on that boat I would be eating fresh crab every night. :))

I haven't watched the After the Catch - I always found it a little boring.

As for D.C., I watch it faithfully every week. The Cornelia Marie getting caught in St Paul Harbor this week was pretty classic - I always enjoy a laugh at their expense. Watch a bunch of clowns.

The Time Bandit and the Invincible (new to this year's Opie season) on the other hand are my favorites.

Oh.. and Sig on the Northwestern is a total douche.

When I lived up there one of our neighbors worked on a crab boat and he always brought several Kings home to us that were too small to keep . You know, the little ones that are about 3 ft across? :))

Don't watch it.

Will watch Ice Road Truckers right now as they're running the Dalton Highway. I get a laugh out of the rookies . . . .

I was running from Atigun to Deadhorse several years ago, ran across a Line Hauler - a big rig trucker - stopped about 70 mile on the highway, that's 70 miles south of Deadhorse. Just stopped, in the highway. We'd had about a foot of snow the night prior. I was the first tracks heading north. Been driving that road for years. Had no idea why he was stopped.

I stopped, asked the obvious questions. He said, "This is the first and last fuckin' time I'm running this road". I said what? He said, "I can't see the road"! "Welcome to the Arctic", I replied. He said, "I'm waiting on the next southbound line hauler and I'll follow him in his tracks, I won't be back".

And apparently he did. When I came back south couple hours later he was gone. The state had plowed out a goat trail, it was the norm. Can't imagine that guy trying this at night. I'd say "What a puss", but I damn well know better. The Dalton is unforgiveable, and unrelenting.

Same as Crab Fishing. Unforgiving and inrelenting. A tought way to go.

There's another series somewhere, maybe on History Channel? Called "Tougher in Alaska". I'm not blowing my own horn here, nor trying to belittle anyone else, but the title fits . . . like a glove. "Tougher in Alaska" is no bullshit.

I'm sure Cheesey can confirm that . .. Tougher in Alaska isn't just a slogan.

Yep, but most of the people they pick to go on those outings are pussies weenies, so they're setting them up to fail.

Yeah, Lisa's pretty cute and seems to have her head screwed on straight. At least she's not afraid to get out there and crank on a strap or boomer.

The CM are a bunch of incompetent half-wits. Their boat is falling apart. They never seem to be on the crab.

My brother is a marine pipefitter at one of the main yards in Seattle. He has worked on most of the boats in the show. He said that by far, the Cornelia Marie is one of the worst run boats in the fleet. Shoddy chief, cheap ass owner. I have no respect of incompetence.

Heh...that's fine with me. I like Phil...not sure why...

And while the Timebandit crew...more like the Troika in Charge...that seem to be joking around...but they always get the job done.

I hear ya Fluffy.

Oh.. and the Wizard is alright by me. Except for Monty - something doesn't strike me right about that guy. Though getting a few ribs broken up from that rogue wave looked pretty rough....

Oh.. and the Greenhorn on the Northwestern is a punk-ass biatch.

Edgar on the other hand - I could totally go drinking with him. Seems like my kind of guy.

Ice road truckers jumped the shark with me when the road stopped being ice. I see they also found a women trucker to try and increase ratings. {sarcastic}

Jake (the NW greenhorn) has been around for a couple of seasons. But he's still a biatch. All he does is piss & moan. I've hated him since day one.

Hey don't discount the Dalton Highway . . .

Here's PROOF it's an "ice road". . . this pic taken at about mile 60 of the Dalton . . .

Really, it's a tough road . . . truthfully, much narrower than any "Ice Road", and just as challenging. in some ways more so. In others not.

I love this show, been watching it since last season. Cool that "After the Catch" was filmed in San Diego. Wish I would have known, I would have loved to see the Captains. I love the dedication of the Captains, especially Phil. I wish for his sake he would stop smoking so much. Andy is a cool guy, I like how he's pretty laid back. I've heard bad things about Sig, but from what I've seen he seems okay. Kieth seems like a good guy, but I questioned his decision making when he wanted to put that tarp on. And the "Incentive" Captain is a cool dude, his mustache is wild.

I watch it every chance I get. It reminds me of the two years I spent in the Bering Sea, the birthplace of the wind. I loved every minute of it. St. Paul, Cold Bay, Kiska, Adak, King Salmon, and the wildest west on the planet - Dutch Harbor.
At home in the PNW and loving it

Oddly enough those are the two boats that are actually based in Alaska. All the others are Seattle based up here stealing our resources. I wish the feds would shut them out of our fisheries. They come here, steal the crab and then leave nothing for the people here. All the profits head south.

When I lived up there one of our neighbors worked on a crab boat and he always brought several Kings home to us that were too small to keep .

My dad use to give rides to the crabbers from dock at Cold Bay to the airport. They usually would tip a crab or two....KING CRAB PIZZA IS AWSOME!!!

But that was 25 years ago, the crabs are too valuable now.

I dunno, Geo used to write for the Homer News and he seems to lay it on a bit. But at least he is actually doing the work.

Really, it's a tough road . . . truthfully, much narrower than any "Ice

Yeah, you can't compare a 16 ft wide ice on gravel roadbed with a nice flat 75ft wide lake ice road. The show wanted to go out on the Artic Oceanc but the oil companies save one didn't want them on their property. They claimed it was for security reasons, allthough that seems to be using that as an excuse more and more.

The Cornelia Marie is based out of Kodiak.

No, he is out of Seattle, if you remember the last episode of last year his trailer had WA plates.

I wish he was out of Kodiak.

Phil is supposed to be the guest of honor at the annual "Salmon Bake" fundraiser at the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum on July 4th.
