CHICOPEE - The wake and funeral for Army Sgt. First Class Kevin A. Dupont will take place this week in his home town.
Dupont died last week from injuries he suffered in Afghanistan in March while serving in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Dupont, 52, was burned over 65 percent of his body after the Humvee he was riding in ran over an improvised explosive device. He had been receiving treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The wake is scheduled for Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at Chicopee High School at 820 Front St.
I hope to be out of work tomorrow early to head over to pay my respects or hopefully have friday off to stop by the funeral home (associates, as it were). Today the city PD, state police, military police from the ARB here as well as a motorcycle escort brought Sgt. Dupont from the base to the funeral home. Amazing sight.
