Two Japanese nationals were detained by Italian financial police last week after trying to enter Switzerland with $134 billion worth of undeclared U.S. bonds, mostly Treasury bonds.

Apparently, they tried to smuggle them in a false bottom of their suitcase. If the papers were genuine, Italy may claim 40% of their worth as a customs fee, which would get Italy rid of a good portion of their state debts...

Didn't find a serious source for this, though. German "Der Spiegel" reports it on their website, but other than that, it's mostly blogs or regional newspapers. And since "Der Spiegel" has well drifted off into the shallow sea of boulevard journalism, I'd take the report with a grain of salt.
