It appears the CAA has chartered some UA B744s to operate some 'bucket and spade' flights between holiday destinations and the UK:

27 September
UA2285 PMI MAN 1345
UA2297 MAN AGP 1650
28 September
UA2287 AGP MAN 0020
UA2298 MAN AGP 0810
30 September
UA2283 ACE MAN 0320
UA2294 MAN ALC 0730
UA2285 ALC MAN 1440
UA2296 MAN AGP 2005
UA2245 AGP MAN 2245

Some flights also going into BHX and LGW. Not sure on the reason for these charters.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

Who operates those routes and is in grave danger of going under? Given that the CAA operates the ATOL protection scheme, that would be my guess: They know something we don't, and it's cheaper to co it this way than to buy in cover at the last minute. {twocents}
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

Good call. Big rumour is that Monarch will fold tomorrow :(
A million great ideas...

Concerning; and potentially a huge loss to the British airline scene.

One of the UA 744s arriving at TFS a couple of hours ago. Manuel EstevezR on hand to snap it:

Which begs the question - now that it looks like Monarch stubbornly refuses to fold, what pax will these 744s carry?

Should be interesting to see what routes, if any, that particular aircraft operates over the next few days. There's something amiss, the CAA wouldn't have done this on the off-chance of an airline going under.

Wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall in CAA HQ right now.
Just once in a while, let us exalt the importance of ideas and information.

Maybe the UK opted for "really hard Brexit" and all those holidaymakers need to get home before they get deported {duck}
