A very low-and-slow helicopter cruises over the bay. Must have been looking for something/someone... (tripod, 76 seconds; 50D + 300 F4L IS)

Very interesting...

Now, this is something different, indeed. Looks cool!

Thanks guys! I loved how the reflections on the water came out.

What's really intriguing to me is that the waves aren't a blur where the light has passed over them.
vikkyvik21 Jan 14, 22:10
Hmmm. I guess because they're only lit up for a second or so, so not enough time for significant blur?
vikkyvik21 Jan 14, 22:11
Sorry, to continue my thought: so what you're seeing is the detail of waves lit up for a second, overlaid on top of the flat blur that would otherwise be there.
ShanwickOceanic21 Jan 14, 22:40
Makes sense. Still interesting that there's a definite wave pattern and not a jumbled mess.
ShanwickOceanic21 Jan 14, 22:41
I wonder if the direction of the waves was actually different, with the speed of the helicopter interacting with the period and direction of the waves to produce that pattern.
ShanwickOceanic21 Jan 14, 22:43
If that made any sense.
vikkyvik27 Jan 14, 02:26
Made sense. I think a definite wave pattern also makes sense, though. The helicopter should create some kind of pattern as it moves. Also (see next post...)...
vikkyvik27 Jan 14, 02:27
...you could be seeing a pattern due to "sampling". Heli is briefly lighting each section of waves at a time. Pattern results. Or some such.
