1917: Katherine Stinson flies 606 miles from San Diego to San Francisco, setting a new American non-stop distance record.
 
1961: The first American military aircraft are based in Vietnam, as the U.S. Army's 8th and 57th Transportation Companies (Light Helicopter), arrive at Saigon, South Vietnam. They are equipped with 32 H-21C Shawnee transport helicopters.
 
1968: First McDonnell Douglas DC-9-20 delivered to SAS.
