All about Airlines and Airliners.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has given a strong hint that she will back plans to expand Heathrow Airport. Here's what we know about the proposals.

More: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/heathrow-thir ... 54484.html

It was expected to cost £14bn back in 2014, but according to the Times, the airport has informally told airlines the figure now sits between £42bn and £63bn.

That's what happens when you piss about and don't just bloody do it, the number gets bigger and scarier so you piss about and don't just bloody do it. {sarcastic}
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has backed a third runway at London's Heathrow airport as part of a fresh plan to get the UK's sluggish economy growing.

Also expansions at Luton and Gatwick, and "a plan to bring Doncaster/Sheffield airport back into use".

Of course, no planning permission yet. Especially for Heathrow, I'll be amazed if a shovel goes into the ground before I do.

If it happens ( and it`s a big if ), it will take 15 years to complete or more,and be 4 times the original estimate or more.

That seems to be the way the UK government does everything, faffs about for years with expensive public enquiries,then by the time the thing is done,it`s already obscelete and massively over budget.

What ever happened to getting a quote for the work, and the vendor has to stick to that quote ?

If your roof needed fixed and you were quoted £3500 + tax to fix it, then you get a bill when the work is done for £14000 + tax, you would tell the vendor to do one ! or Eff AFF if you prefer.

A large proportion of the blame for this has to lie with former PM Boris Johnson and his fantasy of building 'Boris Island/Shivering Sands' in the Thames Estuary. Without the buffoon's catastrophic ego-trip, LHR's 3rd runway would now probably be in the early phases of construction.

That's happening in 2026. IIRC, they've already got a couple of airlines signed up to begin flights around March. There are a loyal band of supporters who've got some heavyweight backing pushing the re-opening along.
A million great ideas...

The Tories now claim that they have no problem with R3 and that Labour have nicked the proposals from them. Come the next election, when they're desperate for a seat and opposing this "waste of money", "absolute violation of villagers' rights" and "global environmental catastrophe", I hope someone rubs that in their faces.

Fantastic news.

Tenuous link: Sheffield's ILS came from Perth, where I used to work (and fly ILS approaches).
