Breeze Airways announces its new Airbus A220-300 schedules, first flights from Tampa
Breeze Airways has announced it plans to announce new, longer routes for the airline’s Airbus A220-300 aircraft in the coming weeks but travelers will get their first opportunity to fly on the new aircraft on 17 existing Breeze routes this summer, starting May 4*, as the airline extends its sales booking window through September 6, 2022. Breeze will premiere its new ‘Nicest’ fare and first-class seating, available only on the A220s, with an introductory fare of just $99.

flypop adds its second Airbus A330-300, starts cargo operations
This week sees flypop bring our second aircraft into service for cargo operations.
Over the weekend our latest Airbus A330-300 (9H-PTP – operated by Hi Fly) flew into London Stansted Airport, flypop’s headquarters, where the team celebrated the airline’s growing fleet with a party.
flypop is now a revenue generating #airline and we look forward to continuing to grow our fleet of aircraft throughout 2022 for both cargo and passenger operations.

Emirates does it again, scaling up and circling around the Burj Khalifa to put Expo 2020 Dubai on top of the world’s travel agenda

Air Serbia announces new destinations for the summer
Starting on April 21, 2022, Air Serbia will launch new scheduled direct flights between Belgrade and Valencia, as well as seasonal flights to three new destinations in Europe – Bari, Palma de Mallorca and Rijeka, starting from June 5, 2022.
Flights between Belgrade and Valencia will operate twice a week – on Wednesdays and Saturdays, during April and May, and then on Thursdays and Sundays from early June. The national airline will deploy an Airbus A319 aircraft on its third route to Spain, which had no direct service from the Serbian capital so far.

Delta anticipates weather-related flight cancellations despite changes to 5G roll out
Delta Air Lines is planning for the possibility of weather-related cancellations caused by the deployment of new 5G service in the vicinity of dozens of U.S. airports, starting as early as Wednesday. The FAA, which regulates airlines, has issued numerous notices that restrict flight activity near airports where this new deployment of 5G service in the C-band spectrum could cause limited interference with altitude instruments on aircraft under various weather conditions that aircraft safely operate in today. As such, Delta is taking the necessary steps to ensure safety remains the priority in compliance with FAA guidelines.

Air Astana restores full operations
Air Astana has completely restored its route network and to 15 domestic and 30 international destinations.
The state of emergency in Kazakhstan affected the Air Astana Group operations, with 178 international and 621 domestic flights by Air Astana and FlyArystan being cancelled between January 5th and 12th, 2022.
Flights from Nur-Sultan and other regional Kazakh cities were resumed on January 7, 2022, with those from Almaty restarting on January 13, 2022.

Virgin Atlantic announces partnership with LATAM Airlines (Brazil)
Virgin Atlantic has announced a new codeshare agreement with LATAM Airlines offering customers the opportunity to fly seamlessly to the South American country of Brazil.
Customers booking through Virgin Atlantic are now able to travel from Heathrow direct to São Paulo as well as connecting onwards onto 12 domestic airports in Brazil including Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Florianopolis. Customers traveling from São Paulo to London Heathrow will also have the option to smoothly connect onto Virgin Atlantic’s rest of world destinations through Terminal 3 including Tel Aviv, Delhi and Hong Kong.

Start-up Northern Pacific Airways reveals Boeing 757 livery
Northern Pacific Airways has rolled out its freshly painted Boeing 757 and shared plans for its operations. 
The event took place on January 18, 2021, on the premises of San Bernardino International Airport (SBD), California. Northern Pacific’s 757 was showcased in a hangar belonging to Certified Aviation Services, a company that provides MRO services to the airline. 
The aircraft has been painted with a black and white livery, which, according to the company, is meant to reflect the Alaskan wilderness.

2.5 million passengers travelled through Malta Airport in 2021
2,540,335 passengers travelled through Malta International Airport (MLA) in 2021. While this full-year traffic result translates into an increase of 45.3 per cent over 2020 figures, it marks a recovery of just 34.8 per cent of 2019 passenger numbers.
The top drivers of traffic for the year were Italy and the UK, both of which enjoyed a 19 per cent market share, followed by Germany, France, and Poland.
These results were presented by Malta International Airport CEO, Alan Borg and Head of Traffic Development, Alex Cardona, during the company’s first press conference of 2022.

Continued recovery in passenger traffic in Q4 for VINCI Airports
VINCI network airports welcomed almost 32 million passengers in the fourth quarter of 2021, down 46 per cent compared to the same period in 2019 but more than double the figures in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020. Over full-year 2021, some 86 million passengers were welcomed, 66 per cent down on 2019 but up 12 per cent compared to 2020.
After very encouraging results in October and November 2021 (down 48 per cent and 44 per cent respectively), the end of 2021 was marked by a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic in some countries due to emergence of the Omicron variant. However, unlike the situation at end 2020, governments did not impose such strong travel limitation measures, preferring to rely on screening and high vaccination rates in most countries.

Prototype eco-friendly electric bus trialled at Vilnius Airport
The prototype of a fully environmentally friendly, electric bus called Dancer is being developed and manufactured in Lithuania is being tested for passenger transportation at Vilnius Airport (VNO). 
This project provides for the testing of the bus in real operating conditions for passenger transport, therefore a tripartite agreement was signed for this purpose between the company Elektrinio transporto sistemos, Vilnius Airport and the ground handling company Litcargus.

UK, German MoD: German airspace not closed to RAF supply flights to Ukraine
Germany and the United Kingdom have both denied reports that Royal Air Force transport aircraft were refused access to German airspace as Britain flew weapons to Ukraine.  
“Germany have not denied access to its airspace as the UK did not submit a request, there has been no dispute between the UK and Germany on this issue,” a UK Ministry of Defense spokesperson told the media, according to Euronews.  
Meanwhile, the German Ministry of Defense said that there was no request for British transporters to overfly German territory, and that they were not prohibited from entering, German newspaper Bild reports.

SB-1 Defiant completes testing program
The prototype of the SB-1 Defiant helicopter has completed Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) mission profile flights intended to test its range, maneuverability and other characteristics. 
According to Lockheed Martin, the helicopter passed the tests with flying colors, demonstrating an ability to perform confined landings, low-level flights, rapidly accelerate and decelerate, as well as carrying out some impressive maneuvers. 
“We fully demonstrated DEFIANT’s ability to execute the FLRAA mission profile by flying 236 knots in level flight, then reducing thrust on the propulsor to rapidly decelerate as we approached the confined, and unimproved, landing zone,” Bill Fell, chief test pilot at Sikorsky, said in a Lockheed Martin press release.
