Boeing 787 Dreamliner reportedly affected by yet another defect
A new defect has reportedly been found on some of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft assembled over the past three years.
Unspecified titanium parts in the airliners were found to be weaker than they should be, sources told the Wall Street Journal.
AeroTime has reached out to Boeing for comment.
This discrepancy is the latest in a series of structural problems found in Boeing 787 Dreamliners assembled in the past few years.

Russian drone maker Kronshtadt to build a prototype of supersonic bizjet
Kronshtadt, the company responsible for manufacturing Russia’s first combat drones, has been commissioned to produce an unmanned technology demonstrator for the country's supersonic business jet.
The deal was revealed by Nikolai Dolzhenkov, Kronshtadt’s chief designer, in an interview with Russian state news agency TASS.
Dolzhenkov said: “We were approached by [the] Zhukovsky Institute in regards to the work on a prototype-demonstrator of an unmanned variant of supersonic business jet. We considered the possibility and concluded that, given appropriate funding, it is possible.”

Boeing delivers 35 aircraft, receives 27 orders in September 2021
Boeing reported having delivered 35 aircraft in September 2021, bringing the total deliveries for the third quarter at 85 aircraft.
During the month, 26 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle airliners were delivered, as the manufacturer continues to reintroduce the aircraft into the market.
In the meantime, Boeing also received 27 orders including 16 737 MAX and six 777F freighters. It is the eighth month in a row that Boeing receives more orders than it delivers aircraft, hinting at newfound momentum from the aviation industry after the pandemic period.

British Airways to offer cabin crew jobs for summer 2022
British Airways has today announced that it will be opening its doors to new cabin crew recruits to work for the airline from Spring 2022 to help fly its summer schedule.
The airline has already contacted people in the company’s existing talent pools, which holds the details of people who left the business last year but have expressed an interest to return to the airline, when jobs are available.

Thai to resume services on 36 international routes on October 31
Thai Airways International has announced it is resuming operations on 36 international routes to Europe, Asia and Australia on October 31, 2021
Thailand will allow fully vaccinated visitors from initially 10 low-risk countries to enter Thailand with no quarantine requirements starting on November 1.

Bo Lingam, formerly President (Airlines) for AirAsia Group, takes over as Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Limited, overseeing the four airlines in the Group (AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia Philippines, AirAsia Thailand and AirAsia Indonesia).

Flyr to lease five Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 aircraft from ALC + 4 options
Flyr is taking a new and important step towards a more sustainable operation by phasing in the very latest aircraft technology with the lowest carbon footprint and fuel costs. On average, the Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 emits up to 14 percent less emissions than previous models.
The company has signed a letter of intent with Air Lease Corporation (ALC) for six brand-new Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 aircraft.

United Airlines announces 5 new international destinations
United today announced the largest transatlantic expansion in its history, including 10 new flights and five new, vogue destinations – Amman, Jordan; Bergen, Norway; Azores, Portugal; Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands. All of the new routes – which are set to begin in Spring 2022 – are not served by any other North American carrier. Additionally, next year, United will add new flights to five popular European destinations: Berlin, Dublin, Milan, Munich and Rome. Lastly, United will launch seven routes that were interrupted due to the pandemic to Bangalore, Frankfurt, Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, Nice and Zurich. Flights are subject to government approval.

Singapore Airlines brings back Airbus A380s to service
Singapore Airlines (SIA1) (SINGY) is set to return its Airbus A380s to the skies, more than one year after the airline suspended its operations.
The carrier’s long-grounded Super Jumbo will fly as soon as November 18, 2021, with its first flight between Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and London Heathrow (LHR), the United Kingdom.

Addio Alitalia: debt-making flag carrier takes off for the last time
The prolonged Alitalia’s saga gets to an end. The flag carrier of Italy is about to take off for its last flight after 74 years in operation.
On the evening of October 14, 2021, Alitalia will make its final flight AZ1586 from Sardinia to Rome, Italy. According to the Flightradar24.com data, the airline‘s Airbus A320 aircraft, registered as EI-DSV will carry out its last takeoff under Alitalia‘s callsign from Cagliari Airport (CAG) at 10.05 p.m. (UTC) and is supposed to land at Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in Rome at around 11.10 p.m. (UTC). The debt-making carrier has already warned its passengers that all services from October 15, 2021, will be canceled as the airline is officially closing.

Bali airport ready to welcome tourists despite absence of international flights
For the first time since March 2020, Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport will open its doors to international tourists beginning October 14, 2021.
However, no international flights are scheduled to arrive at the popular Indonesian resort island, and commercial airlines are yet to officially declare operations.
As of October 14, 2021, all arrivals in Bali airport are from domestic flights.

Exosonic contracted to study supersonic aggressor drones
United States-based startup Exosonic was awarded a contract by the US Air Force (USAF) to develop a low-boom supersonic uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) demonstrator. The purpose of the drone would be to act as an adversary in pilot training missions.
The contract was awarded in the framework of the AFWERX program, which funds innovations for future Air Force applications.

To boldly go: William Shatner sets space record aboard Blue Origin launch
Fiction became reality on October 13, 2021, when William Shatner, who played Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek, launched into space aboard Blue Origin’s second crewed mission.
Actor, writer and director Shatner, 90, became the oldest person to travel to space, passing the Kármán line that defines the boundary between Earth and space, in a mission that lasted just under 11 minutes.

Israel wants to speed up KC-46 deliveries
Israel has requested that the US increase deliveries of Boeing KC-46 tankers over the next two years, doubling the number from two to four four by 2024.
The news came from an unnamed insider source within the Israeli Defense Ministry, as reported by The Jerusalem Post.
The US State Department approved the sale of eight KC-46 air refueling aircraft to the Israeli Air Force (IAF) in March 2020. The new tankers would replace the IAF’s ageing fleet of modified Boeing 707 tankers.

USAF F-15E fighter drops 2.3-ton ‘bunker buster’ bomb for the first time
For the first time, an F-15E Strike Eagle released a GBU-72 Advanced 5K Penetrator bomb.
The test, which was reported by the United States Air Force on October 12, 2021, was deemed successful. It marked the conclusion of a series of tests to integrate the new ‘bunker buster’ weapon into the arsenal of the USAF.
The drop involved an F-15E of the 96th Test Wing flown by the 40th Flight Test Squadron. It took place at Eglin Air Force Base range in Florida on October 7, 2021.
