American’s and JetBlue’s responses to the DOJ lawsuit
American Airlines Chairman and CEO Doug Parker responded to the U.S. Department of Justice’s misguided lawsuit against American and JetBlue’s Northeast Alliance (NEA).
Last summer, American and JetBlue announced an innovative alliance to increase competition in the Northeast. In just a few months, the Northeast Alliance has delivered on its promise to ensure growth and provide clear consumer benefits in New York and Boston.

FAA urges more action taken against unruly passengers
The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is urging passenger airlines to take more action to help deal with the spike in unruly passengers. The move comes as the air carriers observe a growing number of passengers’ disruptive behavior onboard.
The FAA made a request “to commit to take more action” in a meeting with several groups of US airlines representatives and stakeholders on September 21, 2021. The US aviation regulator also plans to hold similar meetings with representatives of airports in order to address the issue in the coming days, Reuters reported.

An-26 missing in Russia, search initiated
An Antonov An-26 went missing near the Russian city of Khabarovsk during a routine check of airport communications equipment.
The aircraft belonged to a company called Letnye Proverki I Sistemy (Flight Inspections and Systems) and carried six people onboard. It has been performing a check of ground communications systems.

Northern Pacific Airways announces purchase of its first six Boeing 757-200s
Northern Pacific Airways (Anchorage), a wholly-owned subsidiary of FLOAT Alaska LLC, has agreed to the purchase of its first six aircraft—Boeing 757-200s. The airline completed the transaction to meet part of its initial fleet requirements. The first aircraft within this purchase will be delivered immediately.
The airline intends to offer service between points in the U.S. and Asia, via Anchorage, Alaska.

Atlas Air now operates two Boeing 747-400Fs for FedEx Express
Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. has announced its subsidiary Atlas Air, Inc. has entered into a long-term agreement with FedEx to provide two 747-400 freighter aircraft on a full-time aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) basis. This new agreement is in addition to the company’s existing multi-year peak season contract that provides FedEx with a minimum of five aircraft during the fourth quarter.

airBaltic to recruit 320 additional crew by summer 2022
airBaltic has announced that by summer 2022 it expects to recruit 320 additional crew – 120 pilots and 200 cabin crew members. airBaltic group plans to primarily rehire its former pilots who had to be released due to the pandemic and airBaltic Pilot Academy graduates.
Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “We are pleased to see a growing demand for travel and have launched various new destinations this year. In line with an increasing vaccination coverage worldwide and eased travel restrictions, we are ready to scale our flight operations again. That is why we have come to a decision to rehire our former employees and add new team members to our crew for the next summer season.”

Emirates ramps up US flights from October to meet increasing demand
Emirates is increasing flight frequencies to a number of US destinations from October. The airline has been building up connectivity in response to growing customer demand on the back of rising travel confidence and the easing of international travel protocols. There has also been a growing interest from US travelers to visit Dubai, a city that offers something for everyone and will be hosting a number of major events including the World Expo this winter.

San Francisco International Airport requires COVID-19 jab for all workers
San Francisco mayor London Breed and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) have announced that effective immediately, all workers at SFO are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The announcement, which was made on September 21, 2021, requires all on-site personnel to be vaccinated or, if exempt, be tested weekly for COVID-19.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport secures launch partner for Prestwick Spaceport
Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) has secured a launch partner for its spaceport development in a landmark deal that will boost Scotland’s space industry ambitions and create an important strategic asset for the UK.
The airport, together with its partner South Ayrshire Council, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Astraius, the leading UK-based, commercially-operated horizontal ‘air launch’ company.

Perth Airport introduces new COVID-19-safe touchless technology
Perth Airport (PER) is continuing to roll out new COVID-19-safe initiatives and practices, through its car parks and terminals to keep passengers and workers safe.
Perth Airport Chief Commercial Officer, Kate Holsgrove, said that Perth Airport has reimagined the traveller journey from car park to forecourt, terminal, security, flight gate and implemented additional COVID-19 safe measures, to reduce touchpoints and promote physical distancing and hand hygiene.

Boeing to open Loyal Wingman final assembly line in Australia
Boeing Australia selected Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport (WTB) in South Australia as the location for the production facility of the Airpower Teaming System (ATS), also known as the Loyal Wingman combat drone.
This facility will be Boeing's first final assembly site outside of North America.
“This announcement follows our success with Australia’s first commercial drone flight testing facility at Cloncurry Airport last December, of which Boeing was a first user,” said Australian Treasurer and Minister for Investment Cameron Dick

Concerns over rise in space debris keep Airbus exec awake at night
The issue of space junk is keeping Airbus space executive Jean-Marc Nasr awake at night.
Nasr, Head of Space Systems within the group’s Defence and Space unit, said there were already 34,000 items of debris bigger than 10cm in orbit and he was concerned about space and satellites becoming targets of “hostile acts”.

Argentina denies it has purchased JF-17 from Pakistan
The Argentine Defense Ministry published a statement denying previous claims that the country has selected the JF-17 as its next fighter jet.
The statement most likely came as a reaction to numerous reports claiming that Argentina was about to purchase the fighter jet from Pakistan.
