Boeing may face gap in bridge to 737 Max
Boeing may slow down the rate of 737NG deliveries this year due to a demand shortfall in the 18-month bridge to the arrival of the re-engined 737 Max, UBS analyst David Strauss says. Strauss’ analysis in a new research note to clients may help explain the apparent mystery behind last week’s guidance update from Boeing. After delivering 762 commercial aircraft in 2015, Boeing now plans to deliver between 740-745 aircraft in 2016.

Air Canada could deploy 737 Max on international routes
Air Canada is considering using its Boeing 737Max aircraft, the first two of which arrive in December 2017, to fly long, thin routes across the Atlantic, the airline’s president said.

American Airlines debuts ad campaign at UK airport
American Airlines launched an advertising campaign at Heathrow Airport in London. Stephen Davis, director of global marketing strategy at American, said the ad allows the carrier to "highlight American's $2 billion investment in the travel experience to those passengers flying other airlines."

Cimber cancels flights due to pilot shortage
SAS Scandinavian Airline’s Danish subsidiary Cimber will cancel 760 services through mid-May as it fights to overcome a shortage of pilots. SAS acquired Cimber in December 2014 to handle regional and short-haul flights on thinner European routes, using a fleet of 12 Bombardier CRJ900s. The Scandinavian mainline carrier transferred some pilots over to the new subsidiary, but expansion at the parent company means many are returning, leaving gaps in Cimber’s aircrew workforce.

Comlux orders three executive A320neos
Business operator Comlux has ordered three of the corporate version of the Airbus A320neo re-engined jet. Comlux says the ACJ320neo aircraft will be fitted with CFM International Leap-1A engines and be delivered as “green” airframes – prior to outfitting – from 2019.

EasyJet plans battery-powered taxiing
UK low-cost carrier EasyJet is banking on a 700kg new taxiing system to save it about 50,000t of fuel per year. The concept envisages motors in the main gear powered by a hydrogen fuel cell installed in the hold, which charges using energy captured from the brakes upon landing.

JetBlue to inaugurate route from upstate N.Y.. to L.A.
JetBlue Airways plans to debut its first nonstop route from upstate New York to California this summer. The carrier will begin flying Airbus A320 planes from Buffalo to Los Angeles on June 18.

Garuda Indonesia revamps A330 long-haul business class
Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is set to take delivery of four new Airbus A330-300 aircraft in 2016, all fitted with an enhanced business class. The carrier’s new Super Diamond business class seats will introduce an “all-aisle” layout with a 1-2-1 seat configuration, along with a Panasonic EX3 inflight entertainment system driving 16-inch touch-screen LCD screens.

Meridiana Meeting Amid Qatar Airways Talk
Senior executives of Italy's Meridiana Fly are meeting the development minister in Rome to discuss the future of the ailing regional airline, amid speculation Qatar Airways could come to the rescue. Meridiana Fly, which offers flights to and from Sardinia and other destinations in Italy and abroad, is under a government-sponsored restructuring plan to help turn it round.

Passengers Evacuated After Bomb Threat On TAP Flight
A bomb threat on a plane preparing to leave Faro airport in Portugal's southern region of Algarve for Lisbon forced the evacuation of 38 passengers early on Tuesday, a spokesman for TAP said.

United helps families with early boarding
United Airlines is changing its policy on early boarding for families. Starting Feb. 15, families with children age 2 or younger can board early. "It takes a little bit of the stress out of the travel situation," said Sandra Pineau-Boddison, senior vice president of customers for United.

UPS delivers strong fourth quarter
UPS soared past Wall Street's expectations for the fourth quarter, and the delivery company issued strong earnings guidance for 2016. Adjusted operating profit rose 16% internationally and more than 18% domestically for the quarter. For the three months ended Dec. 31, UPS earned $1.33 billion, or $1.48 per share. The Atlanta company earned $453 million, or 49 cents per share, in the same quarter of 2014.

WestJet Profit Down As Alberta Economy Weakens
WestJet Airlines reported a smaller quarterly profit, hurt by its large exposure to Alberta, where the economy is weakening. Net earnings fell to CAD$63.4 million in the quarter ended December 31, from CAD$90.7 million a year earlier. Revenue fell 3.6 percent to CAD$958.7 million.

UK signs £1.1bn deal for new military training fleet
The UK Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth £1.1 billion ($1.58 billion) to cover the remaining fixed-wing elements of its Military Flight Training System (MFTS) infrastructure. The deals span the provision of a trio of new aircraft types and related ground-based training equipment. Worth around £500 million and awarded to Elbit Systems/KBR joint venture, Affinity Flying Services, on 2 February, the aircraft package will lead to the introduction of the Grob G120TP – to be named the “Prefect” for the UK – Beechcraft T-6C (below) and Embraer Phenom 100.
