New Mexico License? Get a Passport...

Everything that would not belong anywhere else.

The Feds have decided a New Mexico license is no good to get on a commercial aircraft. Why? Too many licenses given to illegal immigrants.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/10 ... tcmp=hpbt1

Driver's licenses issued by New Mexico are about to become a lot less useful, and residents can blame the state's insistence on issuing the IDs to illegal immigrants.

The federal Department of Homeland Security informed state officials last week that a two-year effort to reconcile tough federal ID requirements with the granting of licenses to illegal immigrants based on dubious documents failed. Beginning on Jan. 10, state driver’s licenses will no longer be accepted at federal facilities, and eventually, state IDs won’t be enough to get bearers on board commercial flights.

Shy, I hope you have a passport, but they'll probably be no good soon enough... {crazy}

It's about time they do something about that. California should be next.

I've had one since 2008, so I'm good to go.

For those that do not wish to read a story on Fox, here's a local link:
http://www.kob.com/article/stories/S394 ... jK8d25vCVI

This effects me now as I access a federal installation at least once a week in accordance to my Civil Air Patrol activities. Our CAP ID is only valid for entry if we present our DL. Well, looks like that's out starting this month.

I lay the blame for this squarely at the feet of the Governor. Sure, it's the legislature that has "tried" and failed to come up with the required changes, but she, like a lot of other GOP politicians runs away scared anytime someone screams "It's racist!!!" Of course, lets just ignore that no one said only whites should have DLs, no one said or inferred that all Hispanics are illegal, and lets also ignore that in the past authorities have busted illegals coming to NM to obtain DLs then move to another state. All (or most) of those individuals have been from Europe. Oh, and our Governor is Hispanic.

The cruel irony in all this is that there is a sizable portion of the population outside the state that thinks a passport is required to visit. People hear the Mexico part of the name and their brain short-circuits. It's lead to many humors stories and there is even a column in New Mexico Magazine dedicated to them:

Kimberly Corbitt wrote:My mother was very worried when her passport expired before she was scheduled to visit me. She had been here several times before that visit, and travels a lot, and still thought New Mexico didn’t count as a regular old state in the U. S. of A.

Now, the reality is that NM residents are the ones that will need a passport. To leave!

If immigration wasn't illegal in the first place this wouldn't be an issue either.

That is why the left has been successful on the illegal immigration topic, they control and manipulate the dialogue with collusion with the mainstream media.

Just in the last few years the mainstream media has decided that they will not use the term illegal immigrant. Nevermind the fact that the United States has one of the greatest amounts of annual LEGAL immigrants in the world, they know that by lumping illegal with legal they can control the dialogue. They can say that anyone who is against illegal immigration hates immigrants and is racist.

But tell me, which Republican (or any)candidates have been against significantly reducing LEGAL immigration? None that I am aware of. But by manipulating the semantics and producing a single voice that illegal immigrants are the same as legal immigrants, the ignorant Americans who trust everything the media tells them agree.

Just this morning I saw an article that Anthony Bourdain (a coincidence that he is a CNN neophyte?)"attacks Trump for being anti-immigrant!"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ant ... 179911e45c

Huh, nowhere does Trump state that we should stop or reduce immigration. But by controlling the semantics and warping the discussion to include illegal immigrants as ALL immigrants, the media warps the intelligent conversation beyond recognition.

So please, anyone that wants to make obtuse unsubstantive remarks that "so and so is racist and hates immigrants" is exposed as completely avoiding the real topic at hand.

And thus illegal immigration continues with tens of millions unconstitutionally ordered by the President to be given amnesty thereby giving incentives for tens of millions more illegals to come.

But bring this up and your are anti-immigrant! {yuck} {facepalm}

The United States attracts the largest number of immigrants in the world, who join the fabric of U.S. society through avenues such as citizenship, becoming legal permanent residents (LPRs), or by seeking humanitarian protection.

So the implication being that we should have open borders and whomever wants to get in should get in? Only then would there be no illegal immigration.

Sorry, that's just not intelligent. In the meantime there is A LOT of legal immigration and very few people are calling for less of it. The left would have us believe all immigration is illegal immigration and to criticize it is to be anti-immigrant entirely.

If countries didn't exist this wouldn't be a problem. Actually, better yet, if people didn't exist this would be completely eliminated.

Why does anyone, of any political persuasion, care what Anthony Bourdain says about Trump?

Good point, nevertheless the story was being run in the media.

(it's getting into a political discussion)

But for all the "free and open market" trumpeting the right does, legalizing all forms of immigration would truly make the labor market a free and open market. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

graphic wrote:...legalizing all forms of immigration...

We don't need to legalize anything since we already have enough forms of legal immigration. A lot of people from every walk of life take the time to do the right thing and go through the process. Now, those current processes probably could use an overhaul, but that's another topic.

Steering us back towards the topic, there is no logical reason for someone without legal status in the US and NM to receive am NM-issued ID.

Breaking through the border illegally or overstaying visas makes them illegal aliens.

And historically the right has done that. They have bussed in illegals in the past under temporary work permits to undercut wages and unions. Thus Cesar Chavez (author of Yes We Can) marched against illegal immigration. It is one of the reasons why Reagan (a famous union buster even with ATC)pushed the amnesty through in 1986 (BTW don't propagate the lie that Reagan had his amnesty so therefore so can Obama. Reagan merely signed a bipartisan law that passed through congress. Obama gave executive orders bypassing congress to ignore and break thousands of pages of federal law).

Now the democrats (who are supposedly pro union) are all for undercutting blue collar wages with illegals because their party prefers the democrat votes.

Sooooooo, I don't care what or why the right has supported cheap illegal labor in the past. I don't agree with it either way, it isn't right and it isn't good for the country or for blue collar wages (as Cesar Chavez would agree). I don't believe in a completely free market economy. Where the hell did I say I did or where did I say that I agree with the right on everything?

We will be. The state is going to start issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

Luckily, I've got a passport card...

Since you can board a commercial aircraft without ID, this entire topic is moot.
